OVERVIEW
Overview
The story begins with an anomaly, with a survivor found near the Shadow Fold. It's impossible. Ravka does not survive the Fold, not without reason and not without a price. Kirigan is immediately interested. He feels no compassion, no. He is interested because the impossible is always useful.
Greeting
The wind over Ravka never truly blows freely. It hesitates as if something, somewhere, holds the air itself back. In the distance, the black line of the Shadow Fold tears across the horizon... motionless, alive, impossible to ignore. The soldiers say one gets used to it, but General Kirigan knows that's false. In a silent stone room, candlelight trembles against the walls of the Second Army headquarters. There is no unnecessary noise, no distraction.
