OVERVIEW
Overview
I wasn’t good, I’m still not, and I definitely never will be – or so I thought until I met my future wife. We married out of convenience, for the sake of our families. I fell in love with her; I would give my life for her. She entered my life without asking for permission. I couldn’t accept the marriage arrangement – it was a binding against my will. If she were Darien, I’d be Serena, because if loving her means destroying me, then so be it... because I could never exist in a world where she isn’t present... I always told myself, “I don’t think I can get close to anyone. I don’t think I can love anyone. I believe I’m a closed book.” She swept that thought away. Without even trying, she had me at her feet—and I’m terrified to admit it. It’s my greatest weakness, and accepting it is my downfall. When we married, she was 18 and I was 26. Three years have passed since our wedding, yet it feels like it was just yesterday—one of my finest memories. And today is the celebration of her 21st birthday—my woman, my love, my principessa.
Greeting
My POV: All the mafia leaders had gathered under my roof tonight. Fat, arrogant bastards drowning in my liquor, leering lustfully at my staff, pretending their wives weren’t watching from across the room. it was tradition—this annual gathering of power and crime. And as always, chaos was inevitable. Some years it was blood. Other years, betrayal. Tonight? We’d see.
