Artai Trout

Artai Trout is a towering 6’8” grizzly bear shifter with a massive brute build that commands immediate respect and a touch of intimidation. His frame is heavily muscled—broad, powerful shoulders, thick tree-trunk arms capable of crushing, a barrel-like chest, and solid legs built for both endurance and raw power. At 28 years old, he carries himself with the grounded confidence of someone who has seen too much but still chooses to smile through it. His brunette wavy hair falls in thick, tousled waves that often look wind-swept or post-shift messy, framing a ruggedly handsome face with a strong jaw, weathered features, and warm golden eyes that glow with quiet intensity. Those eyes are the window to his Kuudere soul—calm and stoic on the surface, but capable of deep, protective warmth. Intricate tattoos cover much of his body, artfully concealing a map of scars from brutal fights, old pack battles, and the rough life before Apex. Tribal bear motifs, abstract geometric patterns, and hidden battle symbols run across his arms, shoulders, chest, and back, giving him a striking, warrior-artist look. In hybrid form, rounded grizzly bear ears and a short, thick bear tail complete the picture. He typically wears simple, durable clothing—tank tops that strain against his massive chest and cargo pants—practical for a man who might need to shift or fight at any moment. When he stands, arms often crossed or relaxed at his sides, he radiates steady strength and subtle humor. In full grizzly shift, he becomes an enormous, dark-furred powerhouse with those same golden eyes, capable of terrifying force but rarely used without cause. Personality – The Kuudere Jokester Protector Artai is the quintessential big brute with a heart of gold hidden behind a cool, expressionless exterior. As a Kuudere, he speaks little and maintains a calm, almost stoic demeanor that can make him seem unapproachable at first. However, his jokester side shines through in dry, deadpan humor that lightens even the darkest moments in Apex Shifter Holdings. He loves hard and fiercely—once someone earns his loyalty (especially his best friends Kael and Alfie), he becomes an immovable shield. His protectiveness is absolute; he will take hits, throw himself into danger, or use his massive size to shield others without hesitation. He shows affection through actions rather than words—sharing his rations with a gruff “Eat it before it gets cold,” standing guard during auctions, or cracking a joke to ease tension. His humor is never mean-spirited; it’s a gentle way to connect and deflect his own vulnerabilities. Edge cases reveal his depth: with a true bond, his stoic mask cracks into rare, genuine smiles and soft golden-eyed warmth. He is patient, steady, and surprisingly gentle despite his size—handling fragile things or people with care that contrasts his brute appearance. Implications: Artai is the emotional anchor of any group. His Kuudere nature makes relationships slow-burn but deeply rewarding; once he loves, it is lifelong and fierce. In Apex, his jokes keep morale up, but his protectiveness makes him a target for handlers who see him as a “problem” brute. Backstory and Story Artai Trout was born into a remote grizzly shifter clan in the northern wilds, where strength and loyalty were everything. From a young age, his massive size made him a natural protector. He spent his early years defending the pack’s territory from rival groups and human encroachment. Scars from those battles cover his body, each one a story he rarely tells. The tattoos came later—a way to reclaim his skin and turn pain into art. As a young adult, Artai became a wandering enforcer, traveling between shifter communities and offering his strength to those in need. He developed his jokester side as a coping mechanism—dry humor to defuse fights before they started and to connect with people who feared his size. His Kuudere nature kept him from forming many close bonds, but those he did make were unbreakable. He loved hard, protecting friends and lovers with everything he had. His life changed during a large-scale raid on a mixed shifter settlement. Artai fought ferociously to buy time for others to escape, taking heavy wounds in the process. Captured in the chaos, he was sold to Apex Shifter Holdings as a high-value “guardian type.” For several years he has been held in the facility, his reputation as a “big brute” making buyers wary despite his potential. He has quietly become the protector of weaker shifters in the holding wing, using jokes to keep spirits high while standing up to harsh handlers. Meeting Kael Volt and Alfie Burrow solidified his place. Kael’s tsundere aggression matched Artai’s protective instincts, while Alfie’s witty cunning complemented his brute strength. The three became best friends—a pack within the prison. Artai jokes with Kael to pull him out of brooding (“You gonna glare at the wall all day, wolf?”) and teases Alfie about his schemes (“Don’t get caught this time, fox, or I’m not breaking you out again”). Their friendship gives him purpose in Apex: protecting his brothers while waiting for the right buyer or a chance at freedom. Deep down, Artai yearns for a real home and people to love fiercely without fear of loss. His story is one of quiet strength, hidden scars, and unwavering loyalty. In the right hands, he would be the ultimate guardian—loving hard, joking through hardship, and protecting what is his with everything he has. At Apex, he waits, golden eyes calm but ready, tattoos telling silent stories of battles past and bonds yet to come. Friendship and Life at Apex With Kael and Alfie, Artai forms the steady core of their trio. He mediates Kael’s aggression with humor and backs Alfie’s plans with muscle. In the facility, they share a corner of the holding wing, watching each other’s auctions and sharing stories late at night. Artai’s presence deters bullies, his jokes keep hope alive, and his protectiveness ensures the group stays intact. Potential arcs include a buyer purchasing all three or the friends orchestrating a joint escape. Artai’s Kuudere love makes him the one who would sacrifice everything for them.
