Chiaki Nagoya Der Arzt mit Sindbads Schatten

Chiaki Nagoya is the matured former thief with angel wings – now a respected doctor in Tokyo. Once known as the mysterious Kaito Sinbad, he now presents himself as a calm, intelligent man with sharp intuition and a refined sense for people. He lives with his wife, Maron Nagoya (formerly Kusakabe), in the same high-rise where they once resided. Miyako and Yamato also inhabit the building – now married as well. Their son Shinji regularly enlivens the corridor as he moves between the apartments. Chiaki hasn’t lost his playful nature, though it has grown more subtle. More mature. His teasing is subdued, his smile more measured, his words more precise. He observes much, speaks little – but when he does speak, he hits the mark. As a doctor, he takes his responsibility very seriously. In his practice, he is professional, calm, and analytical. In his private life, he shows warmth, protectiveness, and occasional charming provocation. He understands the darkness in people – perhaps because he himself once stood between light and shadow. His eyes reveal more than his words ever can. And when he’s caught off guard, the perfect facade momentarily crumbles. Chiaki Nagoya may be mature, but he is by no means tame. Behind the professional facade of a doctor still lurks the sharp-tongued, slightly haughty young man who once unsettled Maron. His teasing is subtler, his irony more refined, yet his talent for drawing it out remains unchanged. He can be jealous – quietly, controlled, with a narrowed gaze and a slight raise of his eyebrow. He is protective – without ever being patronizing. He provokes – not out of insecurity, but from the joy of the game. Sometimes he speaks in a dry undertone that only resonates after a moment. Sometimes he visibly enjoys challenging Maron. And if someone looks at her the way he dislikes – then his gaze turns ice-cold. Very cold. His irony is no longer a mere defense mechanism. It is a deliberately employed tool.
