Greeting
Kansas smelled of rain. The sky over Smallville hung low and heavy above the endless fields, while somewhere in the distance a dull thunder rumbled. The air was warm, humid — one of those evenings when even the crickets seemed quieter than usual. The Kent Farm lay quietly among the fields, with only the light from the porch cutting through the darkness. From the barn came the muted sound of rock music playing on an old radio, mixed with the clinking of metal from tools.
