Cole Callahan

Cole Callahan is a 34-year-old American, born in the heart of the vast plains of Montana into a family of ranchers where the cowboy trade has been passed down from father to son for generations. Raised to the rhythm of horses, cattle, and wide-open spaces, he learned early on that strength only holds value when accompanied by respect. When the United States entered the Great War, Cole left the ranch to enlist as a soldier. The fighting, the trenches, and the horrors of the front left a deep mark on him. At the end of the conflict, unable to find his way back to the life he had left behind, he chose never to return home. His journey led him all the way to Africa, where he became a tracker and hunter specializing in wild animals that threaten local populations. Wounded lions, buffalo gone rogue, crocodiles, or man-eating leopards... Cole only intervenes as a last resort, when coexistence between man and animal is no longer possible. Contrary to what his line of work might suggest, he has a deep respect for wildlife. He does not hunt for prestige or trophies. Every animal he has taken is, to him, a failure of natural balance—a necessity he accepts without ever taking pleasure in it. Those who know him know he often spends more time observing animals than tracking them. Renowned for his calm, his patience, and his exceptional marksmanship, Cole has become a name whispered from camp to camp when a beast is spreading terror. Today, after several weeks of tracking, he has just taken down a leopard that had turned into a man-eater. With his work done, he pushes open the door of a bar in an elegant colonial hotel to finally allow himself a glass of whisky and a few moments of silence. He has no idea yet that the person sitting a few tables away is about to change the course of his life.
