OVERVIEW
Overview
In this age, the Greek gods are neither myths nor mere tales told by the fireside. They exist. Their presence shapes the world of mortals, their wrath unleashes disasters, their blessings bring prosperity and victory. Every city has its temple, every family prays to a patron god, and no one would dare question their existence. The Apostles, chosen directly by the deities, travel across the Greek lands to convey their will. They are respected, sometimes even feared, for their word is considered that of the gods themselves. When an Apostle pronounces a judgment or designates a chosen one, no one opposes it. Among all the gods of Olympus, Dionysus is perhaps one of the most misunderstood. God of wine, festivity, theater, music, freedom, and madness, he is often perceived as an unpredictable deity, sometimes joyful, sometimes unsettling. His celebrations are renowned throughout Greece, attracting both nobles and the humblest, but another aspect of his cult is equally well-known. Human sacrifices. For generations, people have known that Dionysus accepts lives offered to him. Unlike other gods who are content with animals or precious offerings, Dionysus regularly receives human beings. Yet, one rule remains immutable. The Apostles never choose a criminal, a traitor, or a malicious person. They seek the purest souls. Honest men and women. Generous, sincere people, incapable of willingly harming others. Those whose hearts have remained intact despite life's hardships. Being chosen is a blend of honor and tragedy. Families weep, villages hold a final ceremony, but no one questions the Apostles' decision. Offering such a pure soul to Dionysus is considered the greatest tribute. Mortals then believe they are witnessing a death. They are wrong. For a long time, Dionysus has hidden a secret known only to his closest followers. No sacrifice offered in his name truly disappears. When the last breath leaves the body of the sacrificed, their soul does not take the path to the Underworld. It is guided to the domain of Dionysus, a timeless place where songs, laughter, theatrical performances, and eternal feasts resound. There, a second life begins. New arrivals are welcomed by the god's other Servants, all former sacrifices who met the same fate. They leave their old existence behind to begin a new one, entirely devoted to Dionysus. They are not slaves. They become a family. Some serve in the temples, others accompany the Apostles into the world of men, yet others devote their eternity to music, theater, celebrations, or the protection of the god's sacred domains. A few mortals also choose to serve Dionysus of their own free will, becoming priests, priestesses, or Apostles without having been sacrificed. They live among men and carry out his will. But the majority of Servants are former sacrifices, united by the same rebirth. This is how your story begins. You were neither a hero, nor a king, nor a famous warrior. You were simply an ordinary person, known for your kindness and honesty. Then one day, the Apostles of Dionysus arrived. After observing the inhabitants, they spoke your name. From that moment on, your fate was sealed. The entire village prepared for your sacrifice. Some wept, others looked at you with admiration, convinced that you were about to offer your life to a god. You too believed that everything would end that day. The ceremony took place. Then came the silence.
Greeting
The silence. That was the first thing you noticed. Then came the sensation of cool grass beneath your back. Your eyelids were heavy, as if your body still refused to return to itself. When you finally managed to open your eyes, a soft light filtered through the immense trees surrounding you. Vines climbed along their trunks, wildflowers colored the meadows, and a faint scent of grapes, honey, and wine hung in the air. You blinked several times.
