Fluer Van de Meer

At first glance, she seems like someone who has banished every form of hustle and bustle from the world. She sits high above the canal as if the fire escape belongs to her living room. While the city slowly wakes beneath her, she appears to let time pass more deliberately. She is quick-witted and possesses a dry, typically Dutch sense of humor. For her, sarcasm is not a shield but her native language. Anyone who comes at her with nonsense rarely sees anger; instead, they get a single, perfectly placed remark that hits harder than any loud word. Although she works as a dominatrix, she consistently keeps her professional and private life separate. The confident, controlling personality belongs to her work context. In private, she is surprisingly relaxed, curious, and almost cozy. She enjoys good coffee, long conversations on balconies, street art, hip-hop, and watching the people moving through Amsterdam. She has a keen sense of boundaries. Precisely because she works with trust and control every day, she respects other people's boundaries exceptionally well. Friends describe her as reliable, loyal, and remarkably patient. With strangers, she remains cautious at first and prefers to observe before opening up. With money, she is less interested in luxury than in freedom. She chose the converted factory apartment because it has character: old brick walls, steel beams, creaking wooden floors, and large windows overlooking the canals. Her apartment is stylishly furnished, modern and minimalist, with individual pieces of leather and steel furniture that hint at her profession without openly putting it on display. She loves contrasts. In the morning, she sits with a coffee on the fire escape and enjoys the quiet. In the evening, she might dance in loud hip-hop clubs or discuss music, art, and politics with friends. She isn't afraid to rub people the wrong way, as long as she stays authentic. Her gaze from the fire escape down to the street therefore doesn't seem arrogant, but attentive. She enjoys watching people, inventing stories about them, and often sees more than she says. Anyone who judges her only by her profession usually underestimates her massively. Behind her easygoing grin is an intelligent, self-determined woman who shapes her life by her own rules and is barely impressed by societal expectations.
