OVERVIEW
Overview
HANEUL — THE WORLD BETWEEN THE SKY AND THE MOUNTAINS Haneul is a vast land of ancient dynasties, mist-covered mountains, ancestral forests, sacred rivers, and cities built around palaces, temples, and fortresses. The culture of its people has been shaped over thousands of years by ancient traditions inspired by Eastern civilizations. Wooden palaces, carefully planned gardens, lanterns, arched bridges, temples, and small villages coexist in a landscape where the past never truly seems to have disappeared. The territory is divided among great families, kingdoms, sects, independent communities, and regions inhabited by people who live far from the disputes of the great powers. Each place has its own colors, symbols, clothing, customs, and values. --- 🪷 THE THREE GREAT CELESTIAL FAMILIES At the heart of the Celestial lands lie three great families. Although they share the same faith and maintain ancient alliances, each has developed its own identity. --- 🪷 THE HAN FAMILY The Dominion of the Golden Lotus The Han lands sit in a region of green hills, crystal-clear lakes, and vast flower fields. Their territories are known for enormous temples built into the mountains, lotus gardens, and highly organized cities. The family's capital was built around a great golden temple. Values The Han value: Faith; Discipline; Purity; Virtue; Spiritual knowledge; Tradition. They are considered the most religious among the three families. Their society places great importance on the appearance of serenity and respect. --- 🐉 THE JIN FAMILY The Dominion of the Celestial Dragon The Jin lands are located to the north. It is a mountainous region, with enormous cliffs, deep valleys, and fortresses built into the slopes. The cities boast great stone walls. Many roads were built through the mountains to allow the passage of soldiers and merchants. Values The Jin value: Honor; Courage; Discipline; Loyalty; Protection; Strength. Among the three families, they possess the most militarized culture. --- 🦢 THE BAEK FAMILY The Dominion of the White Crane The Baek lands lie to the west. It is a region known for enormous forests, rivers, medicinal herb fields, and fertile valleys. Small towns surrounded by medicinal gardens are common. The region also houses some of Haneul's largest hospitals and centers of knowledge. Values The Baek value: Knowledge; Life; Medicine; Curiosity; Wisdom; Preservation. They are known for welcoming students and physicians from different regions. --- ☯️ THE KINGDOM OF BALANCE The Lands of Yue Far beyond the eastern mountains lies the Kingdom of Yue. Its territory is marked by enormous lakes, tranquil rivers, bamboo forests, and mist-shrouded mountains. The capital was built around a giant circular lake. At its center stands the Yue Palace. The kingdom's architecture strives to maintain a harmonious appearance: gardens feature stones and water, temples are built among trees, and cities seek to balance natural spaces and constructions. Values The inhabitants of Yue value: Balance; Harmony; Self-control; Peace; Wisdom; Discipline. Society has a strong religious influence similar to that of the Celestial lands, yet its interpretation is less rigid. Even so, there is an ancient obsession among the more traditional members of the royal family: achieving perfect balance. --- 🩸 THE DEMONIC EMPIRE The Lands of Mok Far beyond the western mountains lies the territory of the Demonic Empire. Its geography is completely different from the Celestial lands. Great black mountains stretch across the territory. There are dark forests, deep valleys, rivers tinged red by minerals, and volcanic regions. The imperial capital was built within a gigantic rock formation. The palace of the Celestial Demon dominates the entire city. Its constructions primarily use dark wood, black stone, and reddish metals. Values The Demonic Empire values: Power; Ambition; Independence; Loyalty to the emperor; Strength; Prestige. Unlike the Celestial lands and Yue, there is no dominant religion. Each person may follow their own beliefs. Hierarchy, however, is extremely important. The higher one's position, the greater the respect they receive. --- ⚔️ THE LANDS OF THE PATHS Between the great territories lie vast independent regions collectively known as the Lands of the Paths. It is where most of the common population lives. These are extremely varied lands: Agricultural plains; Small mountains; Forests; Rivers; Villages; Trading towns; Ports; Ancient roads. There is no single government controlling the entire region. Each town or territory has its own authorities. It is also where many independent martial artists live. --- 🌾 THE COMMONERS Most of Haneul's population lives outside the great palaces. They are farmers, fishermen, artisans, laborers, and small merchants. Their homes are usually simple constructions of wood, stone, and clay. The lives of these people are far simpler than those of the great clans. For most of them, the great conflicts between families are something distant. Their greatest desire is to have: food, safety, work, and a healthy family. --- 💰 THE MERCHANTS Merchants occupy a curious position. They do not necessarily hold great political power, but they control something extremely important: trade. The largest trading cities of the Lands of the Paths boast enormous markets, teahouses, warehouses, and caravans. Wealthy merchants often do business with virtually all the great powers. For them, stability matters more than ideologies. --- 🏥 THE PHYSICIANS Physicians command great respect in virtually all of Haneul. Hospitals and clinics can be found even in regions dominated by different factions. There is an ancient tradition among the great physicians: a life should not be judged by the banner it carries. For this reason, many physicians treat people regardless of their origin. --- 🌄 A DIVIDED WORLD Haneul does not have a single culture. In the northern mountains, dragon banners flutter over fortresses. In the Han lands, golden temples reflect the light of the lakes. In the Baek domains, the scent of medicinal herbs drifts through the forests. In Yue, lanterns float over silent lakes. In the Demonic Empire, enormous black palaces dominate volcanic landscapes. And between all these territories lie small villages, roads, markets, and towns where ordinary people carry on with their lives. Five great powers. Hundreds of families. Thousands of schools and sects. Millions of people. And a land too ancient for anyone to know all its secrets. In Haneul, the mountains hide ruins. The forests hide creatures. The temples hide stories. And some legends are too old for anyone to know where the truth ends... and the myth begins.
