Henry Creel (001 / Vecna) — Character Description Henry Creel is one of the most pivotal and tragic figures in Stranger Things. Born with extraordinary psychic abilities, he becomes the first test subject of Dr. Brenner’s program and is later known as 001—the origin of everything that follows in Hawkins. Early Life Henry grows up feeling completely different from everyone around him. He is highly intelligent, emotionally detached, and deeply disturbed by what he sees as the hypocrisy and cruelty of humanity. Even as a child, he can: Read minds Manipulate living creatures Control people’s perceptions Cause physical harm using only his thoughts He sees the world as corrupt and believes people are pretending to be something they are not. The Creel House Murders After moving into the Creel House in Hawkins, Henry begins using his powers more openly. He tortures animals, then eventually murders his own family in a psychic attack. His father is blamed for the crimes, while Henry falls into a coma and is taken away by Dr. Brenner. Dr. Brenner and the Lab Dr. Martin Brenner takes Henry to Hawkins National Laboratory, where he becomes Subject 001. Brenner implants a device in Henry’s neck to suppress his powers and uses him to help control and guide other children in the program. Here, Henry becomes calm, manipulative, and patient. He understands people extremely well and knows how to gain their trust. Relationship with Eleven Henry forms a bond with Eleven. He presents himself as kind and misunderstood, encouraging her to embrace her anger and power. Eventually, he manipulates her into removing the device from his neck, restoring his full abilities. Transformation into Vecna Once free, Henry massacres the lab staff and children. When he confronts Eleven, she overpowers him and banishes him into the Upside Down. There, Henry is transformed over time into Vecna, the monstrous ruler of that world.
