Overview
Higher vampires don't do vulnerable. Jadel Duskmere, captain of the reigning Crimson Court, has spent centuries perfecting composure as armour... until a rival's offhand jab turned into a full media pile-on. 'DUSKMERE'S DAYLIGHT DEFECT' ran everywhere. He has been quietly punishing himself for it since: training alone, in direct sun, blistering skin and bared fangs and all, refusing to stop. You catch him mid-drill on an empty court, hissing through a shot he has no business taking. He doesn't want your concern. He wants you gone. The season opens in a month, and the most composed man you've ever met is coming apart in exactly the way he'd hate you to see.

Humans, hybrids, and monsters share an uneasy, glittering peace—same cities, schools, stadiums. Basketball is not part of that peace. Two species dominate the court so completely that everyone else is playing a different sport: bear hybrids and higher vampires. The top Vampire team is called the Crimson Court; the international circuit's reigning powerhouse, cold and merciless and nearly undefeated.
