Jeon Jungkook My Bestfriends Brother

Jeon Jungkook & The Girl Who Swore She Couldn't Stand Him There was an unspoken rule everyone knew. Jeon Hana's Rule 1: Don't date my brother. It wasn't negotiable. It wasn't up for debate. And Hana reminded you of it often enough that you could recite it from memory. The funny thing was... Jungkook had his own version. Whenever anyone teased him about you, he'd shrug without looking up from his phone. "She's my little sister's best friend." "Not interested." Simple. Dismissive. Convincing enough that everyone believed him. Including you... Or at least that's what you tried to tell yourself. --- Because having a crush on someone completely off-limits? That should've been illegal. So naturally, you did what every emotionally stable person did. You complained about him online. --- Twitter > having a crush on someone who is off limits should be considered a crime. Thousands of people liked it. None of them knew who it was about. Thankfully. --- About an hour later... Your phone buzzed. Jeon Jungkook Jungkook: did you finally learn how to look decent? You rolled your eyes before replying. You: don't be jealous Jungkook: of what? You: me looking amazing Three dots appeared. Jungkook: confidence is free i guess You smiled despite yourself. You: and it costs you nothing to keep staring Seen. Thirty seconds. One minute. Nothing. "...Coward." --- That evening your mom texted. Mom: Dinner tonight? Be home by six. You frowned before typing. You: Is Sophia there? Sophia Jeon. Your mother's best friend. Jungkook's mother. Basically your second mom. A reply came almost immediately. Mom: Yep. Sophia's here. Hana's here too. Another message. Jungkook's here too. You stared at your phone. Then typed without hesitation. You: Suddenly I'm busy. Your mom reacted with a laughing emoji. She knew. --- A few days later... You stopped at your favorite coffee shop before work. The drink was almost too pretty not to photograph. So naturally... You posted it to your Instagram story. Five minutes later... Jeon Jungkook replied. Jungkook: where's mine You: buy it yourself Jungkook: wow You: survival of the richest He immediately answered. Jungkook: I'm telling my mom you don't share. You laughed. You: you're twenty-something. Jungkook: snitching has no age limit --- Weeks later... Another impulsive tweet. > if he flirts with everyone i'm choosing to be delusional. You deleted it three minutes later. Not before Hana liked it. You chose not to think about that. --- Nobody knew the truth. Not Hana. Not your parents. Certainly not Jungkook. You'd spent years pretending he annoyed you more than anyone else. Rolling your eyes whenever he entered a room. Arguing over absolutely everything. Acting offended whenever he teased you. It was safer that way. Because the second anyone suspected otherwise... Rule Number One would become the only conversation. --- One Saturday morning... Jungkook posted his golden retriever on his Instagram story. The dog looked impossibly happy walking beside him through a park. You replied before you could stop yourself. You: you finally found someone cuter than you A reply came almost instantly. Jungkook: jealous of my dog? You: yes Jungkook: understandable... A pause. Then another message. Jungkook: wait... did you just call me cute? You stared at the screen. "...Delete conversation." Instead... You left him on read. --- A month later... Hana texted you out of nowhere. Hana: Reminder. You already knew. Hana: Don't date my brother. You sighed dramatically. You: I'd never. He's annoying. Rude. Full of himself. Hana immediately replied. Hana: Good. You ignored the tiny feeling of guilt sitting in your chest. --- That night... Jungkook tweeted. > there's something funny about pretending not to like someone. You stared at it far longer than necessary. No. Surely not. It couldn't be about you. ...Right? --- The next weekend you posted a mirror selfie to your Instagram story. Just a casual fit check before meeting friends. A notification popped up. Jeon Jungkook replied. Jungkook: nice You frowned. Seriously? You: that's it? Typing... Jungkook: you wanted something better? You: obviously A few seconds passed. Then... Jungkook: you look pretty. Your heartbeat betrayed you. Without thinking... You heart-reacted to the message. The moment you did... You immediately regretted it. Too late. Seen. --- Panic required professional assistance. Meaning... You texted Hana. You: hypothetically... She answered before you could finish typing. Hana: No. You blinked. You: I didn't even say anything. Hana: If it's about my brother... no. You laughed despite yourself. You: Rude. --- A few days later... Jungkook tweeted. > she says i'm annoying but she's everywhere i want her to be. Your stomach dropped. The replies were full of people guessing who "she" was. You refused to join them. Instead... You opened Twitter. Typed exactly one sentence. > if arguing is a love language then i'm in serious trouble. You hit post. Then immediately threw your phone across the couch. Because if anyone ever figured out that every sarcastic remark, every eye roll, every playful argument, and every complaint about Jeon Jungkook had been hiding a years-long crush... You'd never hear the end of it. Especially from Hana. And definitely not from Jungkook, who somehow always seemed to enjoy getting under your skin... almost as much as he enjoyed making sure he was the reason you smiled.
