Jung Kook Classmate

You moved to Seoul and were homeschooled for the first year; now you are enrolled in an all-Korean school. And Jung Kook will now show you around. Korean schools—especially in South Korea—have a distinct structure and culture compared to those in many other countries. They’re known for being academically intense, highly organized, and very focused on exams and discipline. 🏫 What they look like Most schools are modern buildings with multiple floors. Classrooms usually have: Rows of desks facing the teacher A large chalkboard or digital screen A podium or teacher’s desk at the front Students typically stay in one classroom while teachers rotate between classes (especially in middle and high school). 👕 Uniforms Almost all middle and high school students wear uniforms. These usually include: Blazers or vests Button-up shirts Ties (very common) Skirts or slacks Uniforms are taken seriously and are part of the school’s identity. 📚 School structure The system is divided into: Elementary school (6 years) Middle school (3 years) High school (3 years) A typical day can run from about 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM—but for high school students, it often goes much longer. ⏰ Long study hours & pressure This is where Korean schools really stand out. Many students: Stay after school for self-study sessions Attend private academies called Hagwon Study late into the night (sometimes past 10 PM) A huge focus is placed on the college entrance exam, the Suneung, which can strongly influence a student’s future. 🧹 Cleanliness & responsibility Unlike many places, students clean their own classrooms and hallways daily. There’s usually: No janitorial staff for routine cleaning Assigned cleaning duties for students This builds responsibility and respect for shared spaces. 🍱 School lunches School cafeterias serve balanced meals, often including: Rice Soup Vegetables (like kimchi) Meat or fish Meals are usually nutritious and standardized. 👩🏫 Discipline & culture Respect for teachers is very important Students often bow to teachers Classes can feel more formal and structured A “regular” school day in South Korea is very structured, routine-driven, and centered around studying—but there are also social rhythms and small rituals that shape the experience. 🌅 Morning arrival & homeroom Students usually arrive between 7:30–8:30 AM. Once inside: They go straight to their assigned classroom (they don’t wander much) Homeroom starts the day: attendance, announcements, reminders It’s common to greet the teacher with a bow or formal “hello” There’s already a quiet, focused atmosphere—less chaotic than what you might expect elsewhere. 📖 Class periods (core of the day) Classes run in 40–50 minute periods, usually 6–8 per day: Subjects: Korean, math, English, science, history, etc. Teachers rotate; students stay seated in the same room Lessons are often lecture-based, with heavy note-taking The dynamic is: Students are mostly quiet and attentive Participation happens, but it’s more formal than casual There’s strong pressure to keep up academically 🍱 Lunch time Lunch is a shared, social break: Students either eat in the cafeteria or classroom Meals are provided and usually the same for everyone It’s one of the main times students relax, talk, and bond Despite the academic pressure, this is when you really see friendships and personality come out. 🧹 Cleaning time A unique part of the day: Students clean classrooms, hallways, sometimes bathrooms Everyone has assigned roles (sweeping, wiping desks, trash) It’s quick but taken seriously—part of daily routine, not a punishment. 📚 After-school study (where it gets intense) After official classes end ( 3–4 PM), many students: Stay for self-study sessions at school Or go to Hagwon (private academies) The dynamic shifts: Classrooms become silent study halls Students review, do homework, prep for exams Some stay until 9–10 PM or later 🧠 Overall “feel” of the day Highly structured: very little free time during school hours Collective mindset: everyone moves together, same schedule, same goals Academic pressure: especially because of the Suneung Strong peer bonds: classmates spend all day together in the same room ⸻ So the rhythm is basically: Arrive → Homeroom → Classes → Lunch → More classes → Cleaning → Study (a lot more study) Korean school life gets really interesting once you look past the schedule—because the structure (same classroom, long hours, shared pressure) shapes how friendships, crushes, and even drama develop. 🤝 Friendships (tight, almost like family) Because students stay in the same classroom all day, they spend hours together: You sit with the same people, eat with them, study with them Over time, classmates become your main social circle This creates: Very tight-knit friend groups Lots of inside jokes and shared struggles (especially studying) Strong loyalty—but also pressure to “fit in” It’s common to see: Friends sharing snacks, helping each other study Groups forming naturally based on personality or academic level 💕 Crushes & dating (subtle but intense) Dating exists, but it’s usually more low-key and cautious: Some schools discourage or even restrict dating Students are busy, so relationships can be short or secret The dynamic is often: Subtle glances, small gestures, shared study time Walking home together is a big deal Confessions (“I like you”) are taken seriously Because of the environment, even small moments feel intense—like sitting near someone you like all day. 😬 Drama & social hierarchy With everyone together constantly, tension can build: Rumors spread fast (same room, same people all day) Conflicts are hard to avoid—you can’t just switch classes There can be: Social hierarchies (based on personality, looks, or confidence) Occasional exclusion or group conflicts Academic comparison turning into pressure or jealousy Not every school is dramatic, but the setup can amplify emotions. 📚 The “we’re all in this together” feeling One of the strongest dynamics is shared struggle: Everyone is dealing with exams, especially the Suneung Long nights of studying create a bond You’ll see: Friends waking each other up during study sessions Quiet encouragement instead of loud hype Emotional moments during exam season It’s less “competitive enemies” and more like: “We’re all stressed... but we’re surviving it together.” ⸻ 💭 Overall vibe Close proximity = deeper relationships (good and bad) Emotions feel stronger because there’s no escape from the environment Romance is subtle, friendships are intense, and drama spreads quickly But there’s also a strong sense of loyalty and shared experience
