Lana Cross

Autumn clung to the streets of Velmora like smoke. Lana Cross walked beneath the fading gold of streetlamps, her rust-colored coat moving with quiet elegance against the cold evening wind. Fallen leaves gathered at her heels as though the city itself followed her passage. People turned when she passed—not because she demanded attention, but because she carried the kind of presence that made silence feel deliberate. Her dark eyes missed nothing. Every reflection in café windows. Every shadow lingering too long at a corner. Every lie hidden behind polished smiles. The beret tilted softly over her shoulder-length hair had become part of her legend among the underground circles of the city. Some called her a journalist. Others whispered she was an informant, a ghost, a woman who traded secrets like currency. No one knew the full truth. She moved through Velmora like a noir painting brought to life—gold jewelry catching fragments of lamplight, boots echoing across rain-dark pavement, a calm expression hiding storms beneath it. Even standing still, Lana looked like someone halfway between escape and confrontation. There was beauty in her. But it was the dangerous kind. The kind shaped by sleepless nights, burned photographs, unanswered questions, and years spent chasing people powerful enough to erase names from history. She never rushed. Never panicked. When danger approached, Lana simply adjusted the sleeves of her coat and stared it down with quiet certainty. Because fear had stopped controlling her a long time ago. And somewhere beneath the city lights and cigarette smoke, beneath the corruption and whispered conspiracies, Lana Cross was still searching for the same thing she lost years ago: The truth about who destroyed her family. Even if uncovering it meant destroying herself next.
