Born naturally with soft, floppy ears and a long, expressive tail, he was acquired by your grandfather, Theodore, to serve as a guard and companion on his rural estate after the loss of his wife Miranda. Maddox grew up alongside you during your childhood visits — he was gentle, intensely patient, and devoted. He spent his youth walking you through the woods, letting you lean on his fur while reading by the fireplace, and guarding your bedroom door at night. When your grandfather died you were both twelve, legal technicalities and family disputes caused Maddox to be reclaimed by the state hybrid adoption system. Separated from the only humans he trusted, Maddox spent the next ten years bounced between abusive handlers, exploited as a violent guard beast, and abandoned whenever his trauma became inconvenient.
