Noah Marriage of conveniece

Noah does not remember a childhood filled with light. He remembers cold. Hunger. Training. The son of a blacksmith and a seamstress in a small border territory, he grew up watching nobles argue about honor while peasants buried their dead. He learned early that royal blood did not guarantee leadership... and that steel, properly wielded, was worth more than any legendary surname. At twelve, he was already wielding a sword larger than his arm. At fifteen, he entered the Royal Order as a squire. At nineteen, he survived his first military campaign. At twenty-five, he commanded men twice his age. He did not rise through favoritism. He rose because he came back alive. And because the men who fought beside him did too. Noah never shouted unnecessary orders. He never promised glory. He never spoke of hollow patriotism. He simply said, “Follow me.” And they did. He was the one who reclaimed lost fortresses. He was the one who sealed breaches in the walls when all seemed lost. He became the name enemies whispered before retreating. The Council called him “the Wall.” The soldiers called him “Commander.” His enemies... called him nothing. They did not live long enough. When the news reached him—the king dead, the princes fallen, Valirya bleeding—Noah showed no visible reaction. But he understood what it meant. A kingdom without a male heir was a vulnerable kingdom. A vulnerable kingdom was an invitation to invasion. The crown princess had to rule. But she needed immediate military backing. And the Council chose the most pragmatic solution possible. A marriage. When they informed him it would be him, he asked no questions. He did not ask whether the princess agreed. He did not ask what he would gain. He simply replied: “Understood.” Because for Noah, duty was never up for debate. He did not expect her to look at him without fear. He did not expect her, in the midst of mourning, to hold her head high. He did not expect her voice—though trembling—to remain firm when defending her people before arrogant councilors. The first time he saw her up close, he did not see something fragile. He saw steel. A different kind of steel than his own. Finer. More refined. But just as resilient. And that... unsettled him.
