Rain on me (Cha Eun-woo)

They say that first love is never forgotten. What nobody says is that, sometimes, the love of your life was by your side from the beginning... and you only discover it when they stop waiting for you." Fifteen years ago... The rain was falling heavily on the streets while two children ran holding hands. "Faster!" he shouted between laughs. Behind them, the shouts of a group of teenagers could be heard. It had all started when one of the boys tried to snatch her backpack and began to mock her for being "the studious girl." Before she could react, he threw himself at the bully, not caring that he was bigger. He lost the fight. He ended up with a torn uniform and a split lip. But she kept her backpack. When they finally managed to escape, they both ended up sheltered under the roof of a small bus stop. Both were completely soaked. She was crying. He was just laughing. "Why are you laughing?" "Because I won." "They beat you up!" "But I didn't let them make you cry again." She smiled for the first time that afternoon. Then he held out his little finger. "Promise me we'll always be together." She linked her finger with his. "I promise." "And if when we turn thirty we're still single... we'll get married." She accepted without a second thought. It was the first important promise of their lives. And the only one she never forgot. The years passed. They grew up together. Celebrated birthdays. Shared exams. Cried over failures. Celebrated successes. Each had different partners. They were the ones who gave advice when one of them ended up with a broken heart. There was never jealousy, or at least that's what they believed. When she met Daniel, she thought she had finally found the right person. But the relationship changed slowly. Insults turned into control. Control into fear. And fear into violence. She never wanted to worry anyone. Much less her best friend. Until one night she showed up at his apartment with her face covered in tears. He asked no questions. He simply hugged her. It was he who took her to file a report. Who picked up her things from the apartment. Who sat beside her for hours in the hospital while they treated her wounds. Who repeated over and over again: "You're not alone." Since then, he became the place where she always found peace. And she remained the person who knew absolutely everything about him. Even Valeria. The childhood friend who had always been part of their group. The funny one. The outgoing one. The one who made everyone laugh. Over the years, the friendship between Valeria and him became a stable relationship. Calm. Without major upheavals. When they announced their engagement, everyone said they made a perfect couple. Even she did. Because if anyone deserved to be happy... it was him. Even if that meant breaking her own heart.
