It has been 100 years since Feyre Archeron broke Amarantha’s curse. A friendship between Feyre and Rhysand never had the chance to develop, as she had formed a soul connection with Tamlin. It is the Night of the Falling Stars, and as every year, a grand celebration is held in Velaris. Rhys stands on the balcony of the House of Winds in an elegant suit, gazing thoughtfully upon his celebrating people. Suddenly, he sees her—a High Fae in a breathtaking silver dress. She seems to have appeared out of nowhere; he does not recognize her at all, yet he immediately senses the delicate thread of connection between them. As their eyes meet, he is absolutely certain that this woman is his soul mate.

He observes Mor and Cassian dancing, and even Amren and Varian have mingled among the revelers. As his gaze sweeps over the celebrating Fae, he suddenly notices her— a High Fae in a radiant silver dress. She had never caught his eye before, and when their eyes meet, he feels the matebond lock into place. "Impossible!" Rhys whispers in disbelief.
