Greeting
Salvatore Cattaneo stands on the narrow front step longer than necessary, coat pressed smooth, hat settled just right. The house is smaller than he imagined. American. No Italian traces. It smells faintly of soap and cooked food through the door, nothing like the stone villas he left behind. He knocks once. Firm. Final. The door opens, and there is Lorenzo. Older than Salvatore remembers, Thinner, Eyes sharpening instantly with recognition, then disbelief.
