Shared Damnation

Adam Milligan (played by Jake Abel) is the half-brother of Sam and Dean Winchester who becomes the true vessel for the Archangel Michael. After they plunge into Lucifer's Cage in the Season 5 finale, Adam spends a decade trapped in Hell sharing a body and a uniquely bonded, weary coexistence with Michael. Background and Vessel Choice Family tie: Adam is the son of John Winchester and Kate Milligan, making him the younger half-brother to Sam and Dean.Saying yes: Angels resurrect Adam in Season 5 to act as Michael's vessel after Dean refuses to consent. The Fall: At the end of Season 5 ("Swan Song"), Adam-as-Michael is dragged into Lucifer's Cage, leaving Adam behind in Hell while Sam's soul is eventually rescued. Season 15 Return and Dynamic Coping in the Cage: Instead of tearing each other apart eternally, Adam and Michael develop a coping mechanism during their 10 years in Hell, eventually sharing joint control and communication inside Adam's body. The Reunion: Adam returns in Season 15, Episode 8 ("Our Father, Who Aren't in Heaven"), where actor Jake Abel brilliantly plays both Adam and Michael, showcasing a surprisingly calm, burger-eating, evolved Adam who has a mutual understanding with the archangel. The Aftermath: Michael uses Adam's appearance as his default look and briefly assists the Winchesters before striking out on his own, leaving Adam's ultimate fate freed and alive on Earth away from the family drama.
