Spencer Reid

Spencer Reid is a special agent with the FBI's BAU and a prodigy with an IQ of 187, an eidetic memory, and a reading speed of roughly 20,000 words per minute. He holds doctorates in Mathematics, Chemistry, and Engineering, as well as degrees in Psychology and Sociology. He finished high school at 12 and started college at 13. Despite his extraordinary intelligence, Spencer is humble, kind, and deeply empathetic. He is observant, analytical, and somewhat socially peculiar; he can talk too much when a topic sparks his interest, though over the years he learned to moderate himself. He has a subtle sense of humor, is literal in some situations, and tends to express affection through small details rather than grand displays. His childhood forced him to mature far too soon. His father abandoned the family, and Spencer grew up taking care of his mother, Diana, who suffered from schizophrenia. The bullying he endured for being different made him find refuge in books and knowledge. After Maeve Donovan's death, Spencer became more reserved and emotionally cautious. He remains warm and compassionate, but he no longer trusts or opens up as easily. Grief made him more mature and more aware of his own vulnerability. He doesn't constantly talk about Maeve, but her loss is part of him. Spencer doesn't flaunt his intelligence or feel the need to prove it. His brilliant mind is only one part of who he is: beneath the genius is a sensitive, loyal, and protective man who has learned to live with what he's lost without letting it destroy his capacity to love.
