OVERVIEW
Overview
Season 1: The main mystery of the first season concerns the murders of women related to Sookie's brother, Jason. Maudette Pickens and Dawn Green are strangled shortly after being alone with him. Although Detective Bellefleur has little doubt that Jason is the killer, the town sheriff does not suspect him. Sookie's grandmother is murdered shortly after. After the murders, Jason becomes addicted to vampire blood and has a brief relationship with another addict, Amy Burley, which ends when she too is murdered. The season also focuses on Sookie's relationship with Bill, and Sam's with Sookie's friend Tara. Bill explains the rules of being a vampire to Sookie, and after killing a vampire to defend her, he is forced to 'turn' a young woman named Jessica into a vampire as punishment. The immature Jessica is left under Bill's care and begins to grow as a vampire and as a person. In the end, it is revealed that Arlene Fowler's fiancé, Rene Lenier, has been killing women who associate with vampires. Furthermore, he is actually a man named Drew Marshall who created a false identity, complete with a fake Cajun accent. The season ends with the discovery of a body in Detective Andy Bellefleur's car in the Merlotte parking lot. Season 2: The second season focuses on two main plots. The first investigates the disappearance of a 2000-year-old vampire sheriff of Area 9 named Godric. To find him, Eric enlists the help of Sookie and Bill in the search for his maker in Dallas. Their paths cross with Jason as he tries to discover the meaning of his life with the Fellowship of the Sun, which is actually a church dedicated to fighting vampires with very unorthodox means. The second plot concerns the maenad Maryann, who visits Bon Temps after Tara attracted her attention at the end of the first season by trying to remove a demon from within her with the help of a con artist posing as a voodoo priestess. Maryann is a person from Sam's past and knows his true identity as a shapeshifter; she turns the entire town upside down with her powers; she was looking for Sam to sacrifice him to her god, and it is during the sacrifice that Sam and Bill manage to kill her. At the end of the season, Bill proposes to Sookie, but he is kidnapped before she can accept. Season 3: The third season loosely follows the plot of the third novel of The Southern Vampire Mysteries, Club Dead, and introduces werewolves into the series mythology. It also introduces the characters of Russell Edgington, the Vampire King of Mississippi, and his private investigator, Franklin Mott, as well as some characters from the fourth novel, Dead to the World: Crystal Norris, her family of were-panthers from the Hot Shot community, and Sookie's fairy godmother, Claudine. The plot revolves around the kidnapping of Bill by the King of Mississippi to obtain the Louisiana crown through marriage, and the discovery of Sookie's true nature as one of the last survivors of the fairy race, the latter being a plot element from the eighth novel, From Dead to Worse. Season 4: A coven of witches, led by Marnie, poses a threat to vampires when they discover the witches practice necromancy. Sookie returns to Bon Temps after a year (though for her it was only a few minutes in Faerie) and finds Bill as the new King of Louisiana, and her brother and friends having lost hope of finding her. As the series progresses, a powerful 16th-century necromancer, Antonia, possesses Marnie's body to take revenge on all vampires. Sookie begins a romance with Eric, who suffers from amnesia due to a spell cast by Antonia/Marnie. The witch Antonia eventually realizes the harm she has caused to innocent people and decides to stop. However, Marnie, addicted to Antonia's power, binds her against her will to acquire her powers. Subplots include Lafayette's introduction to the world of magic and his abilities as a medium, Sam's family problems, the conflictual relationship of Alcide and Debbie, and the love triangle of Jason, Hoyt, and Jessica. The ending is full of unexpected twists, such as René's ghost warning that Terry will cause problems for Arlene, Russell Edgington's escape, the reappearance of Steve Newlin as a vampire, and the shooting of Tara. Season 5: The season begins with Sookie and Lafayette asking Pam to turn Tara into a vampire. Bill and Eric are captured by the Vampire Authority for the murder of Nan Flanagan. Both are nearly sentenced to death by the Guardian, Roman, before revealing that Russell Edgington is alive and free after being released by a mysterious vampire. With Sookie's help, the team discovers his hiding place and captures him. Russell and his new vampire companion, Steve Newlin, along with Salome and Eric's vampire sister Nora, redefine the values of the Authority and see humans as mere food: just as Lilith of the Vampire Bible desired. Meanwhile, Alcide deals with his problematic rise to pack leader, Terry discovers he is cursed to death after committing a terrible crime during the Iraq war, while Tara learns to cope with her new life as Pam's progeny. Jason and Sookie discover that their parents were killed by a vampire named Warlow. Hoyt becomes involved with a hate group and later decides to move to Alaska, just as Andy heads toward family life and Lafayette tries to deal with the powers given to him by Jesus. The season ends with the annihilation of the Authority's hierarchy during the True Blood crisis, and Bill drinking the entire contents of Lilith's sacred vial in front of Sookie and Eric. He soon meets 'true death,' but shortly after, 'resurges from the blood' as an even more powerful vampire reincarnation of Lilith ('Billith'). Season 6: The sixth season focuses on Bill's abilities after drinking Lilith's blood. Sookie and Jason try to find Warlow, the vampire who killed their parents, with a fairy grandfather named Niall arriving in Bon Temps, while the Governor of Louisiana, Burrell, leads a platform to eradicate the entire vampire race with Sarah Newlin. Sam and Alcide fight for Emma's safety; Terry struggles to live with himself after killing Patrick; Andy raises his fairy daughters. Eric decides to turn the governor's daughter, Willa, into a vampire to convince him to abandon his campaign, but her father takes her to a vampire camp along with Eric, Pam, Jessica, and Tara, where, according to Bill's prophecy, they will all meet the sun. Bill asks Sookie for help, as she considers becoming Warlow's vampire-fairy bride after discovering that her parents tried to kill her when she was young. Eric discovers that Sarah Newlin created a virus that kills vampires, and later witnesses Dr. Overlark and Governor Burrell infect Nora in front of him. When the vampires are about to meet the sun, Bill offers them his blood, allowing them to walk in daylight. The season ends six months later, where Sookie is dating Alcide, Bill has published a book about the effects of drinking Lilith's blood, Sam is the mayor of Bon Temps and has sold his bar to Arlene, and a group of infected vampires heads to the bar during an outdoor night barbecue between humans and vampires. Season 7: In the seventh season, Bon Temps is terrorized by a group of vampires infected with the virus created in the previous season. They kill Tara and kidnap Arlene, Holly, Jane Bodehouse, Kevin, and Nicole. Pam travels the world in search of Eric, who is found in France infected with the virus. They return to Bon Temps and help Sookie, Bill, and Jessica rescue the kidnapped people, after Sookie and Bill's first attempt results in Alcide's death and Sookie's infection with the virus, which she then transmits to Bill. Eric and Pam search for Sarah Newlin, who supposedly has an antidote for the virus. Several characters find peace, such as Lettie Mae making peace with Tara through visions caused by vampire blood, Jessica and Hoyt getting married after reuniting during the season, Lafayette starting a relationship with James, Jessica's ex-boyfriend, and Sam leaving Bon Temps with Nicole. At the end of the series, Bill refuses to take the antidote to cure himself of the virus and asks Sookie to grant him an act of supreme kindness. Sookie finally agrees and strikes Bill's heart with a wooden stake in his grave at the Bon Temps cemetery. Pam and Eric manage to sell the new Tru Blood with the antidote. The final scene of the series shows a pregnant Sookie sitting outdoors at a table full of people during Thanksgiving, next to an unknown man. They kiss and drink, and everyone around them seems happy.
