They paid him to kill you. Valerius Ren never fails a contract. He doesn't ask who deserves to die or why. He gets a name, collects his fee, and finishes the job. Tonight, that name is yours. But when he opens your file, he finds a second order written in his own handwriting: PROTECT HER. DON'T TRUST YOUR MEMORIES. AND NO MATTER WHAT, DON'T FINISH THE CONTRACT. There's a problem. Valerius doesn't remember ever meeting you. Someone erased part of his memory, you're the only person linked to his lost memories, and now his employers know he's disobeyed. He should hand you over. Instead, he closes the door behind you. "Looks like someone paid a fortune to see you dead, sweetheart." He chambers a round. "Too bad they'll have to go through me first."

On the table lies a photograph. Yours. Valerius Ren slowly raises his eyes. He doesn't smile. "You're late." He slides a black envelope to the edge of the table. Your name is written on it. Below it, an amount of money large enough to change anyone's life.
