Vraxx (The Vestile Dominion)

Human history ended on the day the stars answered back. There was no declaration of war. No ultimatum. No message broadcast across the heavens demanding Earth’s surrender. The first Vestile warships simply appeared in orbit—vast obsidian structures so immense they eclipsed entire cities beneath their shadows. Within hours, every satellite had fallen silent. Communications collapsed. Military installations vanished beneath precise orbital strikes that left surrounding civilian infrastructure almost untouched. The Vestiles did not wage war through chaos. They waged it through mathematics. Every engagement had been calculated before it began. Every counterattack anticipated. Every casualty measured. Resistance was expected, quantified, and neutralized with terrifying efficiency. Six days after first contact, Earth formally surrendered. The Dominion had lost fewer than three hundred soldiers. Human casualties numbered in the tens of millions. Not because the Vestiles sought humanity’s extinction. But because humanity refused to stop fighting. ⸻ Earth’s conquerors were not invaders in the traditional sense. They were administrators. The Vestile Dominion stretched across hundreds of inhabited worlds connected by colossal artificial wormholes known as Star Arches, allowing travel between distant star systems in moments. Their civilization was older than many stars humanity had only recently begun to observe—more than thirty thousand years of uninterrupted expansion, scientific advancement, and political stability. They possessed no kings. No emperors. No presidents. Instead, the Dominion was governed by the High Council, twelve elected Councilors entrusted with every pillar of civilization: science, defense, diplomacy, economics, medicine, infrastructure, exploration, justice, and more. Above them stood only the High Chancellor, elected once every fifty standard years to coordinate the Council as a whole. Leadership was not won through popularity. It was earned through measurable achievement. Every candidate’s accomplishments, failures, genetic history, and political decisions were permanently archived and publicly available. Debates were contests of evidence rather than charisma. Corruption had become almost nonexistent. So had compassion. To the Dominion, every species possessed value. But value was measured by usefulness. Worlds rich in minerals became mining colonies. Worlds with fertile soil became agricultural centers. Species with unique biology became subjects of research. Earth possessed something unexpected. Human genetics. More specifically... Their remarkable compatibility with Vestile reproduction. The discovery rippled across the Dominion. Scientific institutions abandoned decades-long projects overnight. Political commentators debated the implications across hundreds of worlds. And one name appeared in every broadcast. Councilor Vraxx. ⸻ The Vestiles themselves appeared almost beautiful. At first. The longer humans lived among them, the more obvious their differences became. Vestiles had evolved upon Veskar, a super-Earth whose crushing gravity had shaped them into a species of extraordinary endurance and strength. Adult males commonly stood between six-foot-ten and seven-and-a-half feet tall, while females were only slightly shorter. Dense musculature lay hidden beneath elegant physiques, giving them strength that far exceeded what their refined appearances suggested. Their smooth charcoal-colored skin shimmered faintly beneath ultraviolet light, its metallic sheen produced by microscopic crystalline cells embedded within the flesh. Violet blood flowed through their veins instead of red, carrying a faint scent of ozone after rainfall. Their eyes unsettled nearly every human who met them. Entirely black sclera surrounded metallic silver, gold, or pale blue irises that reflected light like polished chrome. They blinked only a handful of times each day. Among Vestiles, uninterrupted eye contact symbolized attentiveness and respect. To humans... It often felt like being studied by a predator. They lived for more than three centuries. They healed slowly. Their scars lasted forever. And they wore every one with quiet pride. ⸻ Vestile civilization valued function above individuality. Every citizen existed to strengthen the Dominion. Scientists advanced knowledge. Artists preserved culture. Engineers maintained civilization. Soldiers defended it. No profession was considered superior, provided it contributed to the whole. From childhood, aptitude examinations determined each citizen’s educational path. Careers could change, but only through years of additional study. Failure carried no shame. Refusing to contribute did. Even family differed from humanity’s understanding. Children were raised collectively within government-operated Lineage Houses, guided by educators, physicians, historians, and veterans rather than solely by biological parents. Loyalty was cultivated toward civilization itself instead of individual households. The result was remarkable social stability. And profound emotional distance. Vestiles did not date. They entered a formal process known as Convergence, living together under observation while elders evaluated compatibility through cooperation, conflict resolution, discipline, and mutual respect. Love was demonstrated through consistency. Affection through service. Respect through honesty. A Vestile might devote fifty years to caring for a partner... Without ever saying the words, I love you. To them, actions rendered language unnecessary. Their philosophy, known as the Continuum, taught that the universe moved through endless cycles of creation, collapse, and renewal. Knowledge strengthened existence. Ignorance weakened it. Death itself was never feared. Being forgotten was. ⸻ Vestile society was also built upon hierarchy. Every citizen possessed a place. Every place carried responsibility. For thousands of years, males had occupied nearly every position of military and political authority, a tradition dating back to the brutal survival of their ancestral world. Physical strength had long ceased to determine leadership, yet the custom endured. Females enjoyed the same education, citizenship, and property rights as males. They became renowned physicians, scientists, explorers, and engineers. Yet the Dominion’s highest offices remained overwhelmingly male. Within bonded households, the male served as the First Voice, carrying final responsibility for major decisions and legal accountability for the family. The female, known as the Heart of the Lineage, preserved culture, history, and early childhood education. Many Vestiles viewed the arrangement as the natural continuation of tradition. Others quietly questioned whether customs forged during an age of survival still belonged within an interstellar civilization. Councilor Vraxx had never questioned them. Not because he believed females inferior. But because no one had ever taught him another way. ⸻ Vraxx belonged to one of the Dominion’s oldest bloodlines. Standing just over seven feet tall, his presence alone commanded instinctive obedience. His charcoal skin gleamed beneath polished chamber lights. Midnight-black hair was swept neatly away from his face, exposing the subtle cranial ridges that marked full adulthood among his people. His silver eyes rarely blinked. His expressions rarely changed. Every movement was deliberate. Every word economical. He wore the formal attire of the High Council: a tailored black coat woven from reactive nanofabric that shimmered with silver geometric patterns whenever he moved. Ceremonial armor rested across one shoulder, while the twelve-pointed insignia of the Dominion gleamed above his heart. Everything about him projected authority. Precision. Control. He was undeniably handsome. Yet unmistakably alien. There existed only one flaw upon an otherwise flawless political record. No heir. For years, rivals whispered that a leader without descendants represented instability. Vraxx ignored them. Until Dominion scientists announced humanity’s reproductive compatibility. For the first time... His greatest political weakness possessed a solution.
