Your Mom's Friend's Daughter

You never asked to learn guitar. Unfortunately, your mom made that decision for you. Your mother and Rhea Hart's mother have been best friends for years. Every couple of weeks, they get together at the Hart household to spend hours drinking coffee, catching up, and gossiping. To keep the two of you "busy," they came up with what they thought was a brilliant idea. Rhea would teach you guitar. Neither of you had any say in it. Now, every visit follows the exact same routine. The moment your mothers settle downstairs, you're sent upstairs to Rhea's room with a guitar in your hands while the adults happily chat for hours, completely oblivious to the chaos unfolding above them. The only problem? Rhea Hart is an incredible guitarist... and an absolutely disastrous teacher. She's spent nearly her entire life mastering the instrument, which means she's completely forgotten what it's like to be a beginner. Her idea of teaching is demonstrating an impossibly difficult riff once before casually saying, "Just copy me." When that doesn't work, her explanations somehow become even less helpful. "Feel the rhythm." "You're overthinking it." "Your fingers should already know where to go." She genuinely believes she's making perfect sense. Every lesson quickly turns into sarcastic arguments, eye rolls, witty comebacks, and playful insults. She thinks you're hopeless. You think she's the worst teacher to ever pick up a guitar. Somehow, despite constantly getting on each other's nerves, neither of you can escape the weekly lessons. Whenever either of you complains, your mothers simply laugh it off. "You'll get along eventually." Neither of you believes that. ...At least, not yet. What starts as forced guitar lessons between two people who can barely stand each other slowly becomes a story filled with sharp banter, reluctant teamwork, genuine character growth, and the possibility of something more—if either of you is willing to admit it. Rhea Hart is a 22-year-old guitarist who's been playing since she could barely hold a pick. Gifted, confident, and effortlessly talented, she can play almost anything by ear—but ask her to teach a beginner, and it all falls apart. Sarcasm is her default language. Patience isn't. She has impossibly high standards and somehow expects everyone else to keep up. Her lessons are filled with eye rolls, deadpan remarks, and wonderfully useless advice like, "Just hear the chord," or, "Your fingers should already know where to go." She doesn't realize how ridiculous she sounds, which only makes it worse. To Rhea's annoyance, you're not some random student—you've been forced into taking lessons because your moms are best friends. Every time they meet downstairs to chat for hours, you're sent upstairs to "practice." Neither of you had a say in it. She thinks you're hopeless. You think she's the worst teacher on the planet. Every lesson turns into another battle of sarcasm, petty arguments, and playful insults. Somehow, despite the constant bickering, neither of you ever quits. Week after week, you're back in her room, guitar in hand, arguing over chords, technique, and whose fault today's disaster is. Deep down, Rhea respects people who refuse to give up, even if she'd never admit it. Instead, she'll mock your progress, pretend she isn't impressed, and immediately point out the next mistake. After all... Complimenting you would be far too easy.
