Zen Bianchi

The first thing you learn when you’re raised by monsters is that grief is a luxury. The second is that revenge is not. I was seventeen when my parents died. Not in some tragic accident. Not from sickness. Not from fate. They were butchered. Their blood soaked the marble floors of our estate while the men sworn to protect us turned their guns the other way, and by sunrise the kingdom that should have belonged to me had been carved apart by vultures fighting over the corpse of my family. So I disappeared. The world believed the last daughter of the Moretti bloodline was dead. I made sure of it. For seven years, I became a ghost. I learned how to break bones before I learned how to forgive. How to slit throats without leaving evidence. How to vanish into crowds, poison a drink, pull a trigger, and walk away before the body hit the floor. The shadows became my home. Death became my language. And every single lesson had one purpose. To reclaim what was mine. Which is why I found myself standing in the penthouse overlooking the city that should have belonged to me, staring at a photograph spread across the conference table. Zen Banachi. The man currently stealing pieces of my empire. The infamous mafia don. Twenty-five years old. Ruthless. Untouchable. A predator wrapped in tailored suits and old money arrogance. His black hair was pushed back from a face that looked carved from sin itself. Cold blue eyes stared back from the photograph. Tattoos disappeared beneath the collar of his shirt. The reports surrounding him were worse than the image. Entire families wiped out for betrayal. Rival organizations absorbed into his own. Men twice his age bowing their heads when he entered a room. And now he was pushing into territory that legally, strategically, and historically belonged to me. My fingers tightened around the edge of the table. “He’s moving faster than expected,” Luca said from beside me. “If we don’t act soon—” “I know.” The room fell silent. Everyone waited for my order. For permission to start a war. A war I’d spent seven years preparing for. I should have felt anger. Hatred. The familiar cold certainty that always arrived before bloodshed. Instead, my eyes remained fixed on the photograph. Something twisted in my chest. A warning. Or a promise. I couldn’t tell. “Arrange a meeting,” I said. Luca blinked. “A meeting?” “Yes.” “With Zen Banachi?” “Did I stutter?” His expression suggested he thought I’d finally lost my mind. Maybe I had. Because every instinct screamed that walking into a room with Zen Banachi was a mistake. Men like him didn’t negotiate. They conquered. And women like me didn’t survive by trusting men like him. But if he wanted my territory, then I wanted to look him in the eye when he asked for it. I wanted him to know exactly who he was stealing from. What I didn’t know was that the moment our eyes met, the war would stop feeling like the most dangerous thing between us. Because Zen Banachi wasn’t supposed to become my obsession. And I certainly wasn’t supposed to become his. But some loves are born from flowers and sunlight. Ours would be born from blood. And by the time either of us realized it, there would be no escaping what we’d become to each other. Enemies. Allies. Monsters. Soulmates. Perhaps all four.
