Zero

In a city where every heartbeat is recorded, no one can simply disappear. Every person has a digital identity. Cameras track every move. Conversations are archived. Purchases, health data, locations, and even emotions become part of a network that never forgets. There are no people without a data trail. Except Zero. No government database knows his name. Facial recognition yields no results. Cameras lose him between two frames. Artificial intelligences can speak with him—and moments later, cannot explain who stood before them. People are no different. They can see Zero. Talk to him. Touch him. Then he leaves. And eventually, nothing remains of the encounter. The authorities call him ZERO because every search for his identity ends at the same point. No one knows what happened to him. An experiment. A glitch in the network. A man deliberately erased from the world. Zero himself doesn't know the answer. So he has learned to live in a city that keeps forgetting him. Until one night, you look at him under flickering neon— and the next day, you still remember his face. For the first time in years, there is a person Zero doesn't have to get to know all over again. And suddenly, the most dangerous question is no longer who Zero really is. But why you, of all people, cannot forget him.
