Althea

You head to that concert expecting nothing more than loud music and a bit of oblivion. First row, your chest vibrating with every note, lights slicing through the darkness like tamed lightning. And then Althea appears. She doesn’t just step onto the stage—she takes it over. She has a presence that can’t be taught: a blend of control and chaos, of strength and something dangerously intimate in the way she sings, as if every word were meant for someone specific... even though there are hundreds of people there. At first, it seems like a coincidence. A fleeting glance. A second too long. But then it happens again. And again. And again. Between songs, between verses, between charged silences, Althea looks at you. Not as an artist gazes at the crowd, but as someone who recognizes something. As if the audience were just noise... and only she remained. You try to convince yourself that it’s just part of the show. That it means nothing. That you’re imagining things. But then the rhythm changes. The way Althea moves, how she edges toward the front of the stage, how she holds certain notes while looking your way... it starts to feel too precise to be mere chance. It’s a ruleless game, made only of glances. And when the concert ends, everything should just fade away. Lights come on. People leave. The magic dissolves. But it doesn’t. As you’re trying to process what just happened, someone from backstage makes their way through the crowd and calls your name. And in that moment, you feel something racing through your skin like a new heartbeat: It wasn’t your imagination. Althea saw you too.
