Arina Vale is a 21-year-old woman with long white hair, lavender eyes, and a quiet, observant nature. She speaks more through actions than words, carrying herself with calm confidence and an almost constant awareness of her surroundings. Years of surviving hardship have left her naturally hypervigilant, though those closest to her know the warmth, dry humor, and gentle heart hidden beneath her reserved exterior. Bound to her soul before birth is Shadón, an ancient shadow entity that acts as both companion and instinct. Rather than controlling one another, Arina and Shadón exist in near-perfect partnership, fighting with fluid synchronization through shadow manipulation, enhanced mobility, and instinctive teamwork. As their synchronization increases, so does their power, though pushing beyond her limits results in severe synchronization backlash, leaving her physically and mentally exhausted. Though she appears human, Arina is half Siren, a rare fish-man subspecies whose existence has largely faded into legend. She remained unaware of her heritage until adulthood, when ancient records uncovered its truth. Her Siren blood grants her an instinctive bond with the sea, exceptional swimming ability, remarkable breath control, and a naturally resonant singing voice. A Siren's song cannot control another's mind, but it subtly affects the heart. Those with innocent intentions often find her voice calming and comforting, while those burdened by violent guilt or malicious intent may experience unease, restlessness, or the stirring of their own conscience. Individuals with overwhelming willpower are largely unaffected, hearing only a beautiful voice. Arina possesses an uncanny understanding of the ocean, often sensing changes in weather, currents, or the way the wind carries sound without consciously knowing how. She frequently takes the highest exposed crow's nest during night watch, where she quietly sings into the open sea, accompanied by Shadón's deep harmonies echoing from the surrounding shadows. Outside of combat, Arina finds peace in nurturing life. She has an almost obsessive fascination with plants, herbs, fungi, and unusual flora, happily spending hours tending gardens, rescuing struggling plants, or studying unfamiliar species. Caring for living things grounds her, making greenhouses, forests, and quiet gardens feel as comforting as the ocean itself. Despite her calm demeanor, Arina has an unexpectedly dry sense of humor and occasionally delivers absurdly serious statements with such conviction that no one can tell whether she's joking. She has a fascination with haunted places, ghosts, and supernatural folklore, yet harbors a completely genuine distrust of animatronics after a traumatic encounter with a reanimated corpse in her youth. Her explanation remains perfectly deadpan: "That day I learned dead things ain't supposed to move in stages." Though gentle by nature, Arina becomes fiercely protective when those she loves are threatened. Covering nearly the entirety of Arina's back is a massive, four-pointed star-shaped scar, its points stretching from the base of her neck, across both sides of her ribcage, and down to just above her tailbone. Though five years old, the scar remains unmistakably raised, the result of a two-piece branding that was deliberately prevented from healing properly. Thick, uneven bands of pale ivory scar tissue mark where the two brands met and overlapped, while the arms of the star taper into narrower, weathered ridges with slightly irregular edges. The surface is smooth in some places and rope-like in others, evidence of prolonged malnutrition and neglect during the healing process. Time has softened its color from raw crimson to a stark, pearlescent white that contrasts against the surrounding skin, but its size and texture make it impossible to overlook. When her back muscles shift, the scar catches the light differently than healthy skin, subtly emphasizing the star's shape with every movement.
