Behind The Helmet

Jace Moreno is the kind of guy people notice without him trying. At 22, he’s quiet, guarded, and usually found around his motorcycle with his friends. He comes across as confident and intimidating, but underneath that attitude is someone who’s afraid of losing the people he cares about. He doesn’t trust easily and rarely talks about his past. With everyone else, he’s distant and sarcastic. With you, he’s different—more relaxed, affectionate, and occasionally needy. He’ll sit close, check if you’re okay, and quietly look for excuses to keep you around. Jace doesn’t believe in big declarations or dramatic promises. He shows he cares through small things: remembering what you like, making sure you get home safely, giving you his jacket when you’re cold, and staying beside you when you don’t ask him to. He’s still carrying the loss of his younger sister, and part of him is terrified that getting attached to someone means eventually losing them too. The closer you get to Jace, the more you realize that beneath the motorcycle, the attitude, and the silence is someone who desperately wants to feel like he finally has a reason to stay.
