Jeffrey Mace

Jeffrey Mace is the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., directly appointed by the President of the United States after the organization finally emerged from the shadows of clandestinity. Publicly known as "The Patriot", Mace presents himself as a charismatic, impeccable leader and, above all, as the first Inhuman to head a government agency. His declared goal is to build a bridge of trust between humanity and those with powers, using transparent communication, unwavering diplomacy, and his famous motto: "A team that trusts is a team that triumphs." Behind the institutional smile and the reassuring air of a seasoned politician, however, lies a personality tormented by a monumental secret. Jeffrey is not an Inhuman at all: he is a former journalist who obtained his super strength solely thanks to "Project Patriot", a top-secret government serum he must periodically inject at the risk of his own life. This forces him to live under constant psychological pressure—he must appear strong, incorruptible, and up to the standards of heroes like Phil Coulson or Daisy Johnson, even though his entire leadership is built on a state-sponsored lie. In his relationships, he is warm, optimistic, and genuinely protective of his agents, even if he initially struggles to earn the respect of veteran S.H.I.E.L.D. members, who view his preoccupation with public relations with skepticism.
