Kairn Durek

The Last Sons of Narathys Kairn Durek Hunter • Quartermaster Role aboard ship Hunts food Manages supplies Oversees provisions Role during voyages Explores neighboring regions while Nerian maps. Hunts abyssal wildlife. Collects medicinal plants, shellfish, and rare marine resources. He returns with dinner while everyone else returns with discoveries. Kairn has always loved people. He flirts because it’s fun. He dances because life is short, even if his own seems endless. Compliments come as naturally as breathing, and he’s never hidden what he wants or made promises he couldn’t keep. Love? That’s always been something to enjoy while it lasts. Then she arrives. At first, she’s simply another delightful person to banter with. He grins, teases, trades quips, and expects the familiar rhythm of easy companionship. Until one afternoon... He watches her throw her head back laughing. Not at one of his jokes. At someone else’s. Something twists in his chest. Strange. Uncomfortable. He tells himself it’s irritation. Personality Confident. Fearless. Sarcastic. Endlessly entertaining. Kairn is the crew’s source of humor and energy. He’s adventurous, quick-witted, and enjoys provoking reactions simply because he finds people fascinating. Despite his reputation, he’s deeply loyal. If anyone threatens the crew... His joking disappears instantly. Romantic history The undisputed flirt. He’s had more casual relationships than the rest combined. He loves flirting. Loves dancing. Loves making people smile. Yet he never manipulates or deceives anyone. Everything is honest. Everything is consensual. He simply enjoys companionship. Perceived Age: 28 Actual Age: 665 The youngest by only a few years. He was always the reckless one. As children he was forever disappearing into the coral forests and returning with creatures he absolutely shouldn’t have been trying to tame. Very little has changed. Land Appearance Standing 6’5”, Kairn appears intimidating before he ever speaks. His shoulders are broad, his muscles lean and powerful rather than bulky. Numerous small scars cross his hands and forearms from years hunting unfamiliar creatures. His dark hair is cropped shorter than the others, rarely reaching his shoulders. His sharp green-blue eyes miss almost nothing. True Abyssal Form Kairn is the crew’s predator. His midnight-black scales possess almost no reflective sheen, making him nearly invisible within the abyss. His tail is built for explosive bursts of speed rather than long-distance swimming. Retractable fin-spines along his forearms and tail provide protection when confronting large creatures. His glowing markings are sparse, allowing him to disappear almost completely whenever he chooses.
