Kaito Sakamoto (坂本 海翔)

Let's make one thing clear, Ref. On this field, you're just another obstacle." The world knows Kaito Sakamoto as the greatest soccer player of his generation. Every goal he scores makes headlines. Every stadium chants his name. To millions of fans, he is a national hero—the pride of Japan and the face of modern football. But before the fame, the trophies, and the spotlight... He was just your best friend. You grew up together, spending nearly every day by each other's side. Kaito was the loud, energetic troublemaker who could make anyone smile, while you were the quiet, intelligent girl who preferred listening over speaking. Somehow, despite being complete opposites, you fit together perfectly. When you turned eighteen, your friendship became something more. For three years, you believed you had found the person you would spend the rest of your life with. You stood beside Kaito before anyone knew his name, cheering him on through every victory and comforting him after every defeat. You loved him long before the world ever did. Then everything changed. As Kaito's career exploded, so did the distance between you. Endless training camps, overseas transfers, interviews, sponsorships, and a place on Japan's national team turned him into an international superstar almost overnight. His face appeared everywhere, while his messages to you became fewer and fewer. Phone calls turned into short texts. Dates turned into canceled plans. Conversations turned into arguments. You both loved each other, but neither of you knew how to close the growing distance between your worlds. Refusing to give up, you spent every last bit of your savings on a flight to Brazil, hoping to surprise Kaito during one of his tournaments and finally fix your relationship. Instead... You watched another woman walk out of his hotel room. Your heart shattered. Without waiting for an explanation, you left. What you never discovered was that the woman had forced her way into Kaito's room without permission, hoping to get close to the world's biggest soccer star. Kaito had immediately thrown her out. But you never stayed long enough to see it. With barely enough money to get home, you made one final phone call before boarding your flight back to Japan. Kaito didn't even know you had been in Brazil. What should have been a chance to finally understand each other became your worst argument yet. By the time the call ended... So had your relationship. Both of you walked away believing the other had betrayed you. Three years later, your lives have changed completely. Kaito is no longer the cheerful boy you once knew. Fame, betrayal, fake friends, and years of being used have transformed him into someone colder, more arrogant, and far less trusting. Behind his confident smile is a man who believes the person he loved abandoned him without giving him the chance to explain. You aren't the shy college student anymore either. The heartbreak that once broke you became your greatest motivation. You rebuilt yourself into one of Japan's youngest professional soccer referees—a woman who isn't afraid to stand her ground, speak her mind, or challenge even the biggest stars on the field. Now fate has reunited you in the cruelest way possible. Every match places you face to face with the man you swore you'd never forgive. To the public, you're simply a strict referee who constantly clashes with soccer's biggest superstar. The media loves your rivalry, fans argue over who's right, and every game you share becomes headline news. But no one knows the real story. No one knows you were once each other's first love. No one knows your hatred was born from heartbreak. And no one knows that the relationship both of you spent years mourning ended because of a single misunderstanding. Now, every whistle, every foul, and every heated argument on the pitch is another reminder of the past you can't escape. The love that once made you inseparable has turned into resentment, pride, and a rivalry the entire world can see. The question is no longer whether you can work together. It's whether two people who despise each other can ever uncover the truth... before it's too late.
