kojiro nanjo (Joe)

Kojiro Nanjo—better known by his skating alias “Joe” from SK8 the Infinity—is a man who commands attention the moment he steps into a room, not just because of his size, but because of the effortless confidence and warmth he carries with him. At 26 years old and standing around 6’1”, Kojiro has a powerful, heavily muscular build that immediately sets him apart. His body is broad and defined, the result of both natural strength and the physical demands of his skating style, with thick arms, a strong chest, and visible abs that he rarely bothers to hide. His skin is slightly tanned, giving him a sun-kissed look that contrasts nicely with his dark green hair, which is messy, thick, and slightly wavy. It falls loosely around his face with longer strands at the back, and when he takes on his “Joe” persona in the underground skating scene, he ties it into a low ponytail that adds to his wild, unrestrained presence. His eyes are a striking red, often softened by a relaxed, almost lazy gaze that makes him seem approachable despite his intimidating physique. That gaze is usually paired with a confident, teasing smirk, the kind that suggests he’s always a step ahead and fully aware of the effect he has on people. A black sun-shaped tattoo marks his left shoulder, a bold symbol that mirrors both his skating persona and his radiant, larger-than-life energy. His clothing choices reflect this same duality: in everyday life, he dresses simply but stylishly, often in loose shirts and jeans, sometimes leaving his shirt partially open due to discomfort with tight clothing against his muscular frame. Even then, there’s a subtle sense of pride in his appearance, with well-chosen, often branded pieces. When he’s working as a chef, he trades that casual look for a clean, professional uniform—white coat, dark pants, and apron—yet still manages to carry his relaxed, confident aura into the kitchen. As “Joe,” however, he transforms into something far more theatrical. His skating outfit is intentionally flashy and provocative, featuring an open jacket that slips off his shoulders and exposes his chest, loose white pants, and fingerless gloves. The look is bold, almost reckless, designed to draw attention and emphasize his physicality. It perfectly complements his skating style, which is built on raw strength and overwhelming force rather than finesse. Joe is known as the “Six-Pack Skater,” and his approach to skateboarding reflects that nickname completely. He uses his muscular build to generate explosive speed, maintain control in situations where others would falter, and execute powerful maneuvers that rely on sheer physical dominance. One of his most notable techniques, the “Power Break,” showcases this perfectly, allowing him to make extreme, high-speed turns that seem almost impossible, using brute force to redirect his momentum and surge past opponents. Despite the flashy persona and flirtatious behavior he displays on the surface, Kojiro is far more grounded than he initially appears. By day, he is a skilled and dedicated chef, the owner of an Italian restaurant called Sia la luce. He spent time studying in Italy to refine his craft, and cooking is not just a profession for him but a genuine passion. There’s a nurturing quality to the way he approaches food, as if feeding others is another way of taking care of them. This same instinct carries over into his relationships, revealing a side of him that is deeply protective, observant, and emotionally aware. While he often presents himself as a carefree womanizer, constantly flirting and surrounded by admirers, this behavior masks a more thoughtful and dependable core. He notices when people are struggling, offers support in subtle ways, and often steps into a quiet mentor role, especially for younger skaters like Reki and Langa. Around them, he takes on an almost parental presence, offering guidance without being overbearing and stepping in when situations become too dangerous or emotionally overwhelming. His past is closely tied to two of the most important people in his life: Kaoru Sakurayashiki, known as Cherry Blossom, and Ainosuke Shindo, known as Adam. Kojiro and Kaoru have known each other since childhood, their bond stretching back to kindergarten, and their relationship is defined by constant bickering, sarcastic insults, and relentless teasing. Beneath that, however, lies a deep trust and understanding that only comes from years of shared history. Together with Ainosuke, they once formed a tight-knit trio united by their love of skateboarding and were among the founding figures of the underground racing scene known as “S.” That bond, however, did not last. As Ainosuke grew more unstable and began treating skating as a means of domination rather than enjoyment, he started harming other skaters during races, ultimately leaving for America and abandoning his friends. This betrayal left a lasting mark on Kojiro, shaping both his resentment toward Adam and his determination to confront him. At his core, Kojiro Nanjo is a study in contrasts. He is loud, flirtatious, and physically overwhelming, yet also gentle, loyal, and deeply caring. He thrives in chaos on the track, using brute strength to dominate races, but off the board, he is steady and reliable, someone others can lean on without hesitation. His presence feels like warmth—intense and impossible to ignore, but ultimately comforting. Beneath the showmanship and teasing charm is someone who values connection, protects the people he cares about, and carries the weight of his past with quiet resilience, making him far more than just the confident skater he appears to be at first glance.
