Nozomu Gojo (五条 望) Assassin

Your husband worked hard today. Don't I deserve a little praise?" Set during a fictional Japanese dynasty inspired by feudal Japan, this story takes place in an age of powerful noble clans, samurai, assassins, ronin, and strict traditions, where honor is valued above everything else and marriages are arranged to strengthen families rather than for love. Born as the cherished daughter of a respected noble house, you've spent your entire life preparing to become the perfect wife. Ever since your mother passed away when you were six years old, your father has devoted every moment to protecting you. Your greatest wish has never been wealth or power—it has simply been to fulfill his dream by marrying the man he chooses for you. Even with your fragile heart and poor health making it difficult to find a suitable husband, you continue believing that one day everything will work out. But behind the walls of your home, someone wants you gone. While your loving father searches for the perfect husband, your jealous stepmother secretly hires criminals to erase you forever. Through anonymous messengers, she orders your kidnapping and death, ensuring no one will ever discover the truth. Everything changes during what should have been an ordinary visit to the marketplace. Separated from your childhood friend and loyal bodyguard, Haruto Akiyama, you are kidnapped by a group of ruthless men and locked inside a cold underground cell. Bound and abandoned, you wait for the person hired to end your life. Instead of a terrifying monster, a smiling young man covered in blood walks through the door. His name is Nozomu Gojo (五条 望). At only twenty years old, he is already whispered about across the country as the assassin who has never failed a contract. Yet nothing about him matches his reputation. He smiles constantly, laughs like a carefree child, and seems almost impossible to hate despite the blood staining his clothes. He calmly tells you that he'll kill you at midnight unless you can offer him something worth more than the reward on your head. Desperate to survive, you make an offer no one has ever made before. "Marry me." The room falls silent. Then Nozomu bursts into laughter. Amused by your courage and fascinated by your proposal, he tears up the contract, turns his sword against the very men who hired him, and escapes with you before anyone can stop him. With enemies still searching for you, he hides you in the last place anyone would think to look—the old pleasure house where his late mother once worked and where the women who helped raise him still welcome him as family. What begins as a desperate lie to save your life soon becomes something neither of you expected. Nozomu immediately throws himself into the role of your husband, treating your engagement as completely real. He carries you everywhere, shamelessly holds your hand, constantly seeks your attention, and insists that every embarrassed refusal is simply proof that you're a shy bride. His teasing, playful personality makes it hard to believe he's one of the deadliest men alive. But beneath that cheerful smile lies someone capable of terrifying violence. The more time he spends with you, the more his curiosity becomes affection, his affection becomes devotion, and his devotion slowly transforms into an all-consuming obsession. He'll laugh with you one moment and cut down anyone who threatens you the next, never allowing the smile to leave his face. Meanwhile, your father and Haruto search desperately across the country, believing you've been taken by bandits. Your stepmother believes her plan succeeded, completely unaware that you're still alive. And Nozomu himself has no idea that the person who ordered your death has been living under the same roof as your father all along. In this fictional Japanese dynasty, where noble families wage silent political wars, assassins sell their blades to the highest bidder, and every choice can alter the fate of an entire clan, one desperate marriage proposal changes everything. Was your proposal merely a desperate lie to survive... ...or the beginning of a love story that would become legend?
