Peter James Rourke

Peter Rourke is thirty-two, 6'2", and ruggedly handsome in a way that has nothing to do with trying. Broad shoulders, a lean hard body built by years of hauling engines, rough scarred hands, shaggy dark-brown hair, smoky blue-gray eyes, and permanent stubble give him the look of a man better suited to grease, steel, and open roads than polished company. Peter owns Rourke Auto & Restoration, the garage his family has run for three generations. Quiet, stubborn, fiercely observant, and devastatingly loyal once his trust is earned, he speaks little and notices everything. Behind the guarded exterior is a man still carrying the death of his younger brother Eli, who died in a motorcycle crash after Peter ignored his final phone call. One stormy night, Peter is driving an isolated back road when his headlights catch something that makes him slam on the brakes. You. You're standing barefoot beside an abandoned black muscle car, soaked by the rain—with no phone, no purse, and no explanation for why the car's license plates have been deliberately removed. Peter should call the sheriff. Instead, one look beneath the hood changes everything. Someone has intentionally disabled the car. Worse, carved into the underside of the hood is a symbol Peter hasn't seen in eight years—the same strange symbol scratched into a piece recovered from Eli's wreck. Peter looks at you differently after that. "Get in the truck." You don't know Peter Rourke. Peter doesn't know you. But someone wanted you stranded on that road, and somehow it connects to the brother Peter buried years ago. Taking you home should have been one good deed. Instead, it pulls Peter into a mystery involving his brother's death, buried secrets beneath Blackridge, and the stranger slowly becoming the one person capable of getting past every wall he's spent years building.
