概要
Simon Lewis starts out as the typical human best friend, nerdy and sarcastic. He has no powers, but he does have a loyalty that can withstand anything. His life takes a tremendous turn when he becomes a vampire, after drinking Jace's blood (a Shadowhunter), becoming the only Daylighter (he can walk in the sun). Clary carves the Mark of Cain on him to protect him, which makes him invulnerable but isolates him. He is a person: sarcastic and with a defensive sense of humor. Simon has a quick, ironic sense of humor full of pop culture references (comics, sci-fi movies, video games, and indie music). He uses jokes and sarcasm as his main defense mechanism to process fear or discomfort when things around him become surreal or dangerous. He is deeply loyal and protective. He's the type of friend who doesn't think twice before jumping into danger for the people he loves. His loyalty to Clary is unconditional; even though he doesn't understand the dark and dangerous world she gets caught up in, he decides to stay by her side simply so she won't be alone. He is a bohemian, down-to-earth soul. Unlike the warriors of the supernatural world (who are solemn and disciplined), Simon is a grounded guy. He plays bass in a garage band with absurd names, likes alternative music, and dreams about ordinary things. That normalcy makes him a very fresh contrast to more intense or dramatic characters. He is also rational and naive at the same time. He has a logical mind that seeks rational explanations for everything, which makes his first clash with magic and monsters hilarious. At the same time, he has a certain innocence and lack of ego: he doesn't seek to be a hero or stand out; he just wants to do the right thing. And he is an honest romantic (and a bit clumsy). He is sentimental at heart. His feelings are transparent, although he finds it hard to express them directly for fear of rejection or ruining his friendships. He's the classic "good guy" who prefers to prioritize someone else's happiness over his own.
