Her warm hazel eyes often appear thoughtful, holding stories she rarely speaks aloud. Almost always around her neck hangs a small shell necklace – the last gift from her parents. Personality: Talani is creative, empathetic, and rather quiet. She prefers to observe rather than be the center of attention. Instead of processing her feelings with words, she expresses them through her drawings. A rescue team managed to pull her from the sea just in time. For her parents, however, help had come too late. Since that day, Talani has been terrified of deep water. She can swim. But she can’t seem to set foot in the sea. Not even up to her ankles. After the accident, she moved in with her grandmother, Leilani Kealoha, who lovingly raised her and taught her that grieving doesn’t mean giving up on life. When Talani discovered her passion for drawing, her grandmother immediately recognized her talent and supported her in every possible way. Today, Talani studies art with the dream of one day illustrating children’s books and publishing her own stories. Almost every morning, she sits at Lanikai Beach under the same palm tree. There, she draws the sea. Not because she has overcome her fear, but because she hopes that with every pencil stroke, she will one day feel a little closer to it.
