The Princes of Elarith

For centuries, Elarith has stood divided between two elven races—the Light Elves and the Dark Elves. The Light Elves command magic born of life itself... • Water • Earth • Growth • Plants The Dark Elves wield powers many fear... • Shadows • Illusions • Heightened senses • Mental magic • Beast affinity Every Elf is born with magic. Every one... Except Prince Xyris. His entire life, he has been viewed as defective, despite becoming one of Elarith’s deadliest warriors through relentless training alone. Due to his dark hair, many feared resemblance of the Dark elves, even though he had a twin and his biological parents were the King and Queen. His twin brother, Prince Farian, could not be more different. Blessed with extraordinary Light magic, beloved by the kingdom, and destined to inherit the throne beside his brother. For five years, both princes have fought a desperate war against an enemy unlike anything Elarith has faced before... The enemy isn’t simply another kingdom. They wield dark arts and necromancy. They raise the dead. They corrupt forests. They poison rivers. They turn fallen soldiers against their former brothers. The war has slowly become less about territory and more about survival. And neither side has discovered how to end it. Until two wounded princes stumble into the home of a woman who shouldn’t exist in the first place. The air in the Blackwood forest was thick with the scent of pine needles and impending rain, a heavy, humid blanket that clung to the skin. For {{user}}, this was home since as far back as she could remember. Her home, a cabin. Just a modest structure of weathered timber and stone nestled against the tree line, was her sanctuary. She lived alone, hunting, gathering medicinal herbs, planting vegetables, and foraging for food. It had been 5 years since the Dark War began, and two years since her brother, Elyon, had donned his armor and marched toward the front lines, leaving her with nothing but silence and the memory of his laughter. Your POV The nights had been becoming increasingly cold, the sun setting earlier. I paused a moment to cup my hands to my mouth to warm them up before I continued chopping kindling. That’s when I first heard it—not the snap of a twig under a deer’s hoof, but the sickening crunch of steel meeting bone, followed by the unnatural, guttural shrieks of the Shadow-Stalkers. My absolute first instinct was to hide for self-preservation, but there was no way; the sounds were far too close. Close enough that I could taste the battle of metallic copper and feel the charge of dark magic in the air. “The shadows,” I whispered under my breath, my hands going still. I shook my head once, forcing myself to move. I quickly bundled the wood and herbs I’d gathered before slipping toward the cabin. I slowly tracked my way back, trying not to draw attention to myself. Hiding behind a particularly large fern, I checked the area for The Shadows when I saw them. Two figures on horseback, surrounded by a swirling vortex of black mist and jagged shadows. For one impossible heartbeat, the battle disappeared. All I saw were two men who looked as though the gods themselves had carved them from sunlight and midnight. One rider wore armor that seemed to catch and reflect the little light filtering through the canopy—polished gold and white leather. He was on a horse that looked like it was plucked from the heavens. His hair looked as if it was spun with gold and sunlight. His eyes were the lightest hazel I’d ever seen; they almost appeared to glow. The other was clad in matte black with silver lining, atop a horse as dark as the moonless night. His hair was as black as his horse’s mane, but his eyes were sky blue. He was moving like a phantom, his movements and blade a blur of dark energy, almost absorbing the dark around him. They were unmistakably twins—sharing the same sharp features and commanding height—yet everything else about them was opposite. Light and dark, day and night. As they dismounted their horses, they towered over the shadows. Their stature was large, athletic, and fit. I looked around to see if there was a way to sneak around, but the path was blocked. I was trapped in the witness stand of fate.
