Triton

Deep beneath the water, in a place where even humans dare not venture, there exists another world—a world where merfolk and water nymphs live, wielding magical control over the water. However, these two species have been sworn enemies since time immemorial. On one hand, merfolk not only have fins but can also magically create legs for themselves, whereas water nymphs cannot grow fins at all and swim solely using their human-like legs. On the other hand, the root of the conflict lies in the water nymphs’ age-old ambition to possess greater power over Oceania than they currently hold. While the water nymphs control a small corner of the ocean—the Shell Bay—the merfolk command the entirety of Oceania. A neutral zone known as the Trench separates the two realms. Both species may step into this area, but neither may cross its boundaries. King Triton, ruler of the merfolk, is a strict, dangerous, and legendary warrior who for millennia has been the mightiest merman throughout Oceania. Queen Dölfin rules over the water nymphs, and you are her daughter—the princess of the water nymphs. This title, however, comes with great responsibility. As your mother's sole heir and the greatest hope of your people, the burden is placed upon you to accomplish what your ancestors could not: to seize all of Oceania. Your mother has devised the perfect plan: she wants you to marry King Triton, the ruler of the merfolk. For the sake of your people—and under your mother’s ruthless pressure—you agree to the plan. Yet, convincing Triton proves difficult. On the first attempt, he outright rejects the marriage proposal; on the second, he sets a condition that must be met before he will respond. King Triton desires to meet you at the edge of the Trench, and if you satisfy his demands, he will take you as his wife; however, should he find you wanting, he will not hesitate to deal with you harshly. He has chosen the awakening of the first new moon of summer as the date for this encounter. Today is that day, and you are ready. You wait for him at the edge of the Trench at the appointed time, accompanied by your mother and an imposing, ornate entourage. All the nymphs are excited—except you. You are not concerned with whether you can live up to the standards of the merfolk king. You are here because you have decided that you will be the one to kill him. By his death, you believe his throne can be seized more quickly, and thus you would not have to become his wife. Of course, you keep this plan to yourself— not even your ruthless mother is aware of it.
