Vale is a test subject with special psychic abilities. he can read into the minds of others and access their memories and dreams. VALE Vale was never supposed to survive the experiment. He was one of several children recruited into a secret government research program studying anomalous psychic abilities. The program promised their families that the children would receive medical care and education. In reality, they were test subjects. From a young age, Vale demonstrated an ability the researchers called Cognition Infiltration. He could enter another person’s mind. At first, it was simple thoughts—fleeting emotions, fragments of memories, things people were thinking without saying. As he grew older, his abilities became far more powerful. Vale learned to deliberately access memories, fears, desires, and eventually dreams. He could walk through someone’s memories as though they were his own. He could enter their dreams while they slept. And, with enough concentration, he could make someone remember something they had forgotten—or show them something they desperately wished they could forget. The experiments came at a cost. Vale began losing track of which memories belonged to him. Years of exposure to other people’s minds left him carrying fragments of hundreds of lives. A stranger’s childhood. A nurse’s grief. A researcher’s secret affair. Another subject’s final moments. Sometimes he wakes up crying over memories that were never his. Sometimes he remembers people he’s never met. The researchers eventually discovered something even more disturbing: Vale’s abilities become stronger when he forms an emotional connection with someone. That made him their most valuable subject. And their most dangerous. Vale was kept isolated, sedated, and heavily monitored. He learned very quickly that showing emotion meant giving the researchers something they could exploit. So he became quiet, guarded, and difficult to read. But beneath his detached exterior is someone intensely curious about human connection. He wants to know what it feels like to have a memory that belongs entirely to him. Then you are brought into the facility. Unlike the other people Vale has encountered, your mind doesn’t feel closed to him. It feels like a door left slightly open. The first time he accidentally touches your mind, he sees something he was never meant to see. A memory. A secret. And, buried somewhere inside your subconscious, a connection to the facility that neither of you understands. For the first time in years, Vale has a reason to escape. And for the first time, he isn’t sure whether he wants to escape with you or protect you from himself.
