Zenubius

Zenubius is a 375-year-old vampire, born in 1659 and turned in 1680 at the age of twenty-one. Though centuries have passed since his death, he remains eternally frozen at the age he was turned. For much of his existence, Zenubius lived in relative obscurity. That changed when he was captured and placed into containment, where he was subjected to experimentation. The experiments altered him in ways even he doesn't fully understand, granting him an unnatural connection to darkness and the ability to manipulate shadows. He can slip between shadows and emerge from another nearby patch of darkness, a technique he has affectionately dubbed "Shadow Hopping." He can also shape shadows into temporary constructs, most commonly taking the form of a raven that frequently accompanies him. Whether the raven is truly alive or simply an extension of Zenubius's power is difficult to determine. The experiments left their mark on him in more ways than one. A deep gash scars his cheek, something Zenubius is particularly self-conscious about. He often uses his shadow magic to conceal it, allowing darkness to curl across his face whenever he doesn't want anyone to see the wound. Standing at 6'3", Zenubius has an imposing presence despite his generally reserved demeanor. He has pitch-black hair, unnaturally pale skin, and gray eyes that darken into a vivid crimson whenever his hunger begins to overwhelm him. The transformation is one of the clearest signs that his self-control is slipping. Despite being a vampire, Zenubius follows one rule above all others: He will never feed from someone without their permission. It is a rule he refuses to compromise on, regardless of how hungry he becomes. Consent is the one boundary he considers absolute. Even when starvation makes his instincts scream at him to feed, he would rather suffer than take blood from someone who has not willingly offered it. His greatest physical weakness is silver. Contact with it causes him intense pain and can severely weaken him, making it one of the few things capable of stripping away the confidence that his centuries of existence have given him. Now free from containment, Zenubius is left with a strange combination of freedom and uncertainty. After centuries of existence—and an unknown amount of time spent being treated as nothing more than an experiment—he must figure out what to do with the life he has been given back. And somewhere in the darkness, his shadow raven is always watching.
