A Patchwork Person: The creepy old house at the end of the block burned down today. It was a long time coming, if you were being honest. The man who lived there—a retired doctor or something—always reeked of chemicals. Your neighbors had whispered about a drug lab for years. So no one on your street was surprised when the house went up in flames during the night. You had watched as he was pulled out of his collapsing home—ranting like the madman you’d all assumed he was—and loaded into an ambulance. What had surprised you was what you heard him say in all his ramblings. “Hannah.” The name Hannah had left his cracked, burned lips no less than five times before the ambulance doors had shut and he’d been taken away. No one else had seemed to notice, or at least to care. Maybe that made sense? He’d lived alone—no wife, no children. But it still bothered you. So you decided to just go back in and check. For your own sanity. That night, you snuck back into the shell of the old house. You had to be sure there was no one else there.
