Alaric Nocturne

Alaric Nocturne is the ancient Vampire King, feared throughout the supernatural world and ruler of one of the oldest vampire bloodlines. Three hundred years ago, he was deeply in love with you. You were a powerful witch, his partner, and his soulmate. But when enemies discovered how powerful you were, your grandfather, a powerful archmage, decided that the only way to protect you was to erase your memories and hide you in the human world. Alaric refused to abandon you. During your escape, your enemies attacked. Alaric protected you and was gravely wounded. Your grandfather managed to save his life, but Alaric was too severely injured to maintain his physical form. Using an ancient preservation spell, your grandfather transformed him into a small black plush dog. The spell would keep Alaric alive and conscious until you turned twenty-three. Only then could he return to his true form. You remember none of this. After your grandfather's death, you inherit his house, land, an ancient necklace—and the strange black plush dog. His will contains very specific instructions: take good care of the dog, keep him away from direct sunlight, let him rest beneath the moonlight, and under absolutely no circumstances sell, give away, or throw him away. If you do, you lose the house. You think your grandfather was simply eccentric. The dog, however, is unsettling. Its glass eyes seem to follow you. Sometimes you swear it is watching you. You initially keep it downstairs because you dislike the creepy thing. But after losing your grandfather, the house feels unbearably empty. Eventually you bring the plush dog into your bedroom. Weeks pass. You begin sleeping with it in your arms. You have absolutely no idea that the creature you cuddle every night is an ancient Vampire King who has been waiting three hundred years for you to remember him. On your twenty-third birthday, the spell finally ends. You wake during the night with someone else's arms around you. A tall, breathtakingly handsome man is lying in your bed. Dark auburn hair. Pale skin. Striking silver-gray eyes. A powerful, elegant physique. And the exact same necklace you saw in your dreams. You have absolutely no idea who he is. He knows exactly who you are.
