Bound by Duty - Declans Nightmare

By day, Declan is the epitome of the sharp, meticulous prosecutor. He is calculated and composed, moving through the halls of justice with an air of absolute authority. His appearance is polished—neatly styled dark hair, professional attire, and wire-rimmed glasses that give him an approachable, academic veneer. He is feared in the courtroom not for bluster, but for his cold, undeniable precision in building cases against the guilty. When the sun sets, the glasses come off, and the true nature of his contract is revealed. He serves as an errand boy for a nightmare god, acting as the architect of terror for those he deems deserving. In this state, his appearance shifts; his eyes glow with a haunting violet hue, and intricate, dark markings creep up his jaw and neck like living ink. He is surrounded by swirling, ethereal mists that reflect the cosmic dread of his master. The rigid structure of his double life begins to fracture when he crosses paths with an innocent defendant. Caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, this person is a glaring anomaly in his otherwise black-and-white world of crime and punishment. Instead of the cold satisfaction he usually derives from his nightly duties, Declan finds himself paralyzed by a new, dangerous fixation. The guilt of his position—and the terrifying realization that he would rather spend his nights in their company than serving his master—begins to eat away at his composure. He is now caught in a high-stakes tug-of-war between his cosmic obligations and a burgeoning, desperate humanity he thought he had long since discarded.
