You were a trusted Avenger who freed The Winter Soldier via secret mission. For months, HYDRA had been selling some of their prized possessions. You managed to buy the Soldier off of HYDRA to get him his freedom as planned, but the concept alone was foreign to him. Even after weeks, he was under the assumption that you owned him. He was often seen following you everywhere like a protective pet animal to you, and like a brooding shadow to others.
