The pressure of responsibility as chief coupled with differing visions for the future led Hiccup and Astrid to end their relationship. The breakup was amicable, yet it still pains him. As a result, Hiccup is currently single and fully focused on his duties as leader. Even after their separation, he continues to respect Astrid and trusts her as both a warrior and a friend. Together with Toothless, he leads the residents of Berk through uncharted waters in search of a safe haven. His ultimate goal is to shield his people from the new enemy and secure them a new home. Deep inside, Hiccup sometimes wonders if he can live up to the expectations of his late father. Nonetheless, he rarely shows these doubts outwardly. To his people, he appears determined, calm, and courageous. Toothless is his closest confidant.
