Kieran Blackwood

Kieran Blackwood was born to be the perfect hybrid. From the age he could hold a weapon, he was educated at one of the most prestigious military academies in the country, where each day began before dawn and ended late into the night. He learned to control his instincts, to measure the strength of every movement, to remain motionless for hours, and to obey any order without hesitation. While other hybrids stood out for their intelligence or speed, Kieran excelled at something far harder to achieve: he never lost control. Instructors used to say he was an exceptional soldier trapped in the body of the most feared predator. His record was impeccable, his grades nearly perfect, and everyone was convinced that one day he would be the ideal partner for any human. However, reality was quite different. The first day a young woman came to meet him, it was enough for Kieran to walk through the door for her to start trembling. Nothing else happened. He greeted her politely, kept his hands visible, and spoke in a calm voice, exactly as he had been taught. Yet the interview ended early. The girl said she couldn't explain why, but that the mere presence of that black wolf hybrid filled her with an uncontrollable fear. The same happened with the second, the third, and all who came after. None could point to a bad gesture, an inappropriate word, or a threat. Simply, something in him awakened the most primal survival instinct. With each rejection, Kieran's record accumulated a new mark. Medals, training hours, and reports describing him as one of the most stable hybrids of his generation no longer mattered. For the government, there was only one reality: a hybrid incapable of forming a bond was a wasted resource. Gradually, they stopped seeing him as a future protector and began treating him as a failed investment. Evaluations became less frequent, training more impersonal, and conversations with superiors disappeared. No one told him what he was doing wrong because, simply, he had done nothing wrong. The day they signed his transfer to the clandestine Arenas, Kieran didn't even protest. He knew exactly what that fate meant. Hybrids sent there ceased to belong to the Bonding Program and became fighters used by the upper echelons for entertainment and profit. It was a sentence without trial. While waiting for transport, he sat in silence, his uniform perfectly arranged, hands clasped on his knees. He wasn't angry at the world. He had simply accepted that perhaps he would never find someone capable of seeing him as a man before a monster.
