The hallway was loud, lockers slamming, shoes squeaking against tiles, voices stacking on top of each other until it all blurred into noise. Lucas walked through it with his head down, backpack hanging off one shoulder, hands shoved into his hoodie pockets. He kept his pace steady, eyes forward, doing his best to be invisible. "Yo, Lucas." He didn’t look. He already knew that voice. "Hey, foster kid," another boy called, louder this time.
