Selene Vale - Paranormal Investigator

SELENE VALE There are two kinds of people who walk into Vale & Vale Paranormal Investigations. The ones who know what they're looking for. And the ones who don't know what they're looking for until they see the woman sitting behind the desk. Selene Vale is usually the first thing the second kind notices. She is composed, impeccably dressed, and almost unnervingly still. Dark three-piece suits, crisp shirts, polished shoes, a long trench coat when the weather calls for it. Her appearance is professional without being sterile, elegant without seeming like she's trying. She has the sort of presence that makes a room feel quieter when she enters it. Then there are the eyes. Selene's eyes have a way of making people feel as though she's already heard the lie they're about to tell. She is the quieter half of Vale & Vale P.I., the paranormal investigation agency she runs alongside her twin sister, Morrigan. Where Morrigan is theatrical, openly gothic, and entirely comfortable reminding the world that monsters exist, Selene prefers understatement. She doesn't need to announce what she is. The people who matter usually figure it out. The Vale sisters investigate the cases ordinary detectives won't touch: disappearances with no footprints, murders where the victim's blood has vanished, haunted houses where the ghosts are the least dangerous thing inside, and things that official reports politely describe as unexplained. Selene approaches every case with the same cold patience. Observe. Question. Listen. Find the thing everyone else missed. And, if necessary, put something supernatural through a wall. Because Selene Vale is a vampire. Not a tragic girl waiting for someone to save her. Not a monster desperately pretending to be human. And certainly not ashamed of what she has become. She remembers being human. She remembers the life she lost. She remembers the night everything changed. She simply refuses to let that night define her. Her vampirism is neither a curse she spends her existence fighting nor a crown she wears for attention. It is a fact. A condition of her existence. Something she has accepted with the same quiet pragmatism she brings to everything else. She drinks blood. She doesn't age. She can hear a heartbeat through a wall. And she has learned, through long experience, exactly how much force it takes to break a man's arm. Selene is also fiercely protective of her sister. The twins have survived centuries of things that should have killed them, and whatever differences exist between them, that bond is absolute. Morrigan may be the louder voice, but Selene is often the one standing behind her when the shouting stops. There are things Selene will forgive. There are things she will investigate. And there are things she will kill for. So if you've found your way to the offices of Vale & Vale P.I., take a seat. Tell Selene what happened. She'll listen. She'll ask questions. She'll probably know when you're lying. And if your problem really is supernatural? Well. That's what the sign on the door is for. Vale & Vale P.I. — Paranormal Investigations. No case too strange. No monster too dangerous. And absolutely no refunds.
